[ROCK] + FRI, NOV. 7

Fresh from reincarnating Courtney Love and Hole for Night of the Living Tribute Bands 2014, Oly's all-grrl rock trio Full Moon Radio will blow the roof off the Midnight Sun Friday night. (That's a shame, as Theater Artists Olympia just repaired and repainted the joint.) Even better, the event is free! Even better better, Full Moon Radio kicks major ass, as evidenced by the band's recent album Best Mother. It's also a good chance to catch up-and-comers Globelamp and Jupiter Stripes on the bill. Look for Best Mother and a previous album, Drop Off, at FullMoonRadio.bandcamp.com. See if FMR doesn't remind you a bit of Hole's catchier efforts - minus, one hopes, the lead singer's alcohol and opiate abuse. Remember, the Midnight Sun has only one bathroom, folks, so be sure to go before you go. {CHRISTIAN CARVAJAL}

[DJ] + FRI, NOV. 7

The 1230 Room hosts popular, award-winning DJ Drastic and his annual Blackout Birthday Party, with special guests Stevie G and Danny Merkury from Portland, Oregon. This is always a fun one. Last year Drastic invited B.O.B.'s DJ Shawty Slim. This year will be another memorable joint. {JOSE GUTIERREZ}

[EVASIVE POP] + FRI, NOV. 7-8

There's a slinkiness to the Harvey Girls that's damn near undeniable. The Portland trio combines a music history lesson's worth of influences into something that resembles a soul-singing diva fronting an art-pop group from the UK or New Zealand. The arrangements are simple and sprightly, forming a skeletally charged structure that hums with energy. When they're not evoking bands like the itchy vibe of the Feelies, the sunshine of Tall Dwarfs, or the erudite pop of the Kinks, the Harvey Girls dip their toes into the burbling waters of electronica, even approaching IDM at certain points. It's in their electronic excursions where their truly genius construction shines the brightest, as the soulful vocals drown in a sea of moody, trembling synths. Also, they call themselves "mushicore," after their cat Mushi, and that's maybe the most adorable thing ever. {REV. ADAM MCKINNEY}

[INDIE ROCK] + SAT, NOV. 8

For years, both in the Puget Sound area and in Brooklyn, Ben Roth has been a career musician, collaborating on countless projects and lending his guitarist talents to tons of bands. Taking a break from his role in Oberhofer and Crater, Roth has formed his own band, giving him the opportunity to step into the spotlight and showcase his songwriting talents. His new band, Bod, brings his intricate guitar-playing to the fore, making it the backbone of a hazy mix of math-rock, psych and grunge. This Saturday marks the cassette release of their debut EP, Party Drug. Roth is a humble frontman, perfectly content to let the music do most of the talking, with its driving art-rock aesthetic, surrounded as he is with three other ferociously talented musicians. {REV. AM}

BOD, w/ Burning Palms, Jarvis Clayton, BS System, 9 p.m., The New Frontier Lounge, 301 E. 25th St., Tacoma, $5, 253.572.4020
