Several months ago you may have received somewhat of a scare at the sight of moving boxes outside Tacoma's Rocket Records. A mainstay of local vinyl geeks - myself included - Rocket Records has been on the corner of Sixth Avenue and Proctor Street since 2007. The disappearance of its distinctive red and yellow sign would truly be a tragedy. The store has had one of the widest selections of records and CDs in Tacoma - from popular music and local music to that of the utterly obscure - as well as an array of posters, stickers and other music paraphernalia.

Rocket Records' corner office also served as a venue to rattle the vinyl and earrings. Many Saturdays, at 3 p.m., the small-but-impressive stage was home to many a loud, local band.

So with the two valuable services Rocket Records has been providing Tacoma - recorded music as well as live music - the location's seemingly imminent closure was probably very concerning. But don't fret, Rocket Records has merely moved to a new location.

The store is up and running, just a few doors down from its original location. Now situated at 3823 Sixth Ave., the store will be celebrating its official grand re-opening this Saturday, Sept. 7.

Rocket Records owner Steve Gaydich told me there are several reason why your Saturday should include quality time at his store. Continuing on in full-force as a venue, Rocket Records will be hosting a performance from Alabama-based dubstep group Toxic Rain. Performing music in the same vein as Skrillex, Flux Pavillion and Wolfgang Gartner, Toxic Rain will be bringing their own brand of electronica to Rocket Records with "peace, love, and bass drops."

Saturday will be a great opportunity to get some deals on all your listening needs. At the grand re-opening celebration you will be able to score up to 20 percent off on the store's selection of used vinyl and CDs. The only thing better than Christmas in July is Record Store Day in September - and I hope to be checking off some titles on my record wish list.

I hope this helps to ease any panic you may have had about the fate of Tacoma's Rocket Records. The store is going full-steam ahead, and I hope to see many of you there this Saturday enjoying the grand re-opening celebration.
