Making the decision to change your name to 2 Chainz is a conundrum we've all surely encountered in our lives. As an up-and-coming rapper, Tauheed Epps always went by Tity Boi, but decided to switch things up in 2011, after (perhaps correctly) assuming that the 2 Chainz moniker would be more family-friendly. Releasing T.R.U. REALigion under his new name, 2 Chainz managed to score his first appearance on the Billboard chart.

In the time since T.R.U. REALigion, 2 Chainz has risen through the hip-hop ranks. Just a few months ago, 2 Chainz hit number four on the charts with ColleGrove, a surprise album that is credited solely to 2 Chainz for contractual reasons, but was actually a collaboration between him and Lil Wayne. Unlike his more proper solo albums, 2 Chainz is happy to defer to Lil Wayne on much of ColleGrove, reveling in the interplay between two immensely talented lyricists and rappers.

As a creative entrepreneur, 2 Chainz has used his elevated status to help out artists on the rise, forming his own independent record label in 2015. Not content to merely make his own name, 2 Chainz enthusiastically takes part in the heavily collaborative hip-hop scene, frequently contributing verses to other artists' tracks, as on Lil Jon's weird, klezmer-inspired banger "Turn Down For What."

Anyone wanting to see 2 Chainz in person can get a glimpse at The Gallery's expansion grand opening on Saturday. Yes, the gallery is a marijuana shop, so those with disapproving employers or judgmental family members might be advised to take that into account. Otherwise, take this opportunity to catch 2 Chainz in a more intimate setting than a club or concert - and, if you do, be sure to ask him about his segments on The Nightly Show, because those were great.
