It's nice to have someone on your side, especially during these uncertain times when your household income may have dropped and the future isn't clear. Harborstone Credit Union has been doing just that through its Financial Navigator program.

Think of it like having a trusted friend, there to be a listening ear and to help you make sound decisions without judgment.

Harborstone created this effort in response to COVID-19 and its widespread effects, seeing the need not only to help people who are struggling with the loss of household income but also to offer guidance and support for an individual's unique needs. Whether it's managing your debt, learning how to budget, or finding the right assistance for your current situation, Harborstone is here to help. Even if the help you need is beyond your basic finances, they'll help in any way they can or guide you to the right resources.

"There remains a lot of hurt," says Kayla Boe, Member Success Representative and 34-year Harborstone employee.

"COVID is still scary for a lot of people, but people are starting to realize they can't wait around anymore. They have to make more permanent changes," Boe says.

That's where Harborstone can help. Harborstone's Financial Navigators can offer one-on-one support to better understand your full financial picture and offer the best resources or advice based on your current situation. If all you need is some much-needed encouragement during this unprecedented time, they can provide that too. There is no reason to suffer in silence.

Mark Minickiello, Vice President of Community Development at Harborstone, said last summer, "When times get tough, we work even harder for our members and our communities." Because credit unions are owned by their members, it's all about a community coming together to help each other.

While military members may not have lost their jobs, they may have partners who have lost theirs, and there is a need for additional support within the military community. Harborstone, which began as McChord Credit Union, understands the military life and can talk to military families with compassion and understanding.

Boe says, "No one has to feel bad when they ask for assistance. Sometimes, in the middle of a stressful situation, it's hard to see the trees through the forest." Harborstone can look at a person's financial situation and not only make suggestions but connect members with the right resources in the community. They are well versed in financial assistance programs, education, and more.
