Grub Gossip

Bite-sized foodie news for your consumption

My head is constantly spinning from the plethora of holidays that circulate around food and drink. Obviously, dining with loved ones is the ultimate way to celebrate so it's only natural that it's always some sort of season: barbeque season, the holiday season, Independence Day is loaded with loaded hot dogs and potato salad. And though Valentine's Day is often steeped in heart-shaped boxes of sweets, that's all behind us. March is nearly upon us, and for the life of me I can't think of an excuse to overindulge (hush now, St. Patty's and Pi Day DO NOT COUNT). Thank goodness, because my waistline needs a breather. What I'm getting at is this week's gossip, is willy nilly ... because we can.

Savor Creperie in Tacoma's downtown has been serving up delicious crepe-based eats, both sweet and savory, for years now. Sadly, they're closing their doors with the last day of service Saturday, March 14, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Show up, show some support, and get one last bite of their wonderfully crafted crepe-based creations. 1916 Pacific Ave., Tacoma

The Tacoma Buddhist Temple is inviting the masses to enjoy a Traditional Japanese Sukiyaki Lunch, Sunday, March 1, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dine on beef and tofu sukiyaki, miso soup, chicken teriyaki and mochi cupcakes, in-house or take on the go. 1717 Fawcett Ave., Tacoma

Marlene's Market and Deli in Tacoma often hosts a variety of cooking and educational classes with a lean towards sustainable and healthy ingredients. Their upcoming course is Magnificent Moroccan Feb. 29 at 10 a.m. with Mitra Mohandessi guiding attendees through a world of flavors from Morocco with an emphasis on spices. You'll journey through dishes like khunjul: an assortment of warm and sweet spices steeped and served hot, salade de pamplemousse: a tangy grapefruit and fennel salad, and kefteh tagine: lamb meatballs braised in fragrant herbs and topped with eggs. Pre-registration is recommended. 2951 S 28th St., Tacoma
