Dishcrawl is a start-up company that's rapidly expanding across the U.S. and now is jumping into action in Tacoma. The company leads tours, but not just any tours - food tours. While new to Tacoma, it currently operates in cities all around North America, from San Francisco to New York, Montreal to Vancouver, B.C. Dishcrawl has a simple, but effective mission - create dining experiences and show food lovers the best their community has to offer at local restaurants.

"Dishcrawl is like a pub-crawl, but with food," said Tacoma Dishcrawl Ambassador Kathryn Neely. "It's where we take a group of people to four different restaurants, where they will meet owners and chefs, and also eat some amazing food. We walk to all four restaurants; they are all within 10 minutes of each other, and we spend about 45 minutes at each one, 7 to 9:45 p.m. The first three are regular dishes while the last restaurant is for dessert."

Tours are led by Neely and offered once or twice per month, at least to start. If people love the tours, more tours will come.

"It's an exciting event because people get to meet new friends and try new delicious food, while enjoying the last bit of summer fun," she said.

Tacoma's first Dishcrawl event is Aug. 20. Where is the tour going? You have to take a leap of faith, because restaurants on the tour are kept a secret until two days before the event. Only then are destinations of choice revealed to ticket holders. The event is about adventure and getting to know your city, jumping into the community feet first. Tours cost $45 per person and can be purchased online at dishcrawl.com/dttacoma before the event. Note that same-day purchases, either in person or online, are not available.
