Happy Birthday Jerry Mathers

Jerrymathers ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY. 1948: The little creep, Jerry Mathers, is born on account of his parents.
Bobble Tiki is curious why the Beav and Wally never got punished for the things they did. Just once Bobble Tiki wanted to see an episode where Beaver actually gets away with something. Could you just imagine Larry Mondello saying, “Gee Beaver, you finally got away with something.” And Beaver saying, “Yeah Bay-bee!” as they give each other a high-five at the end of the show.  Instead, the stupid Beav got stuck in a billboard of a bowl of soup. â€" Bobble Tiki

BJ rumor

BJ's Bingo in Fife plans to develop a high-class smoking lounge similar to the one El Gaucho ran until the people of Washington spoke out and said smokers suck.  It will open next month.  We'll keep you posted. â€" Jason de Paul

Shatner helps you get outta town

The massive pile-up on Interstate 5 has clogged up weekend travels.  Don't you wish you could be Rocket Man and blast your way high, high into the sky?  William Shatner does.  I hope this helps kick-start your weekend. â€" Brad Allen

Battle of the blues

Bluesalliance Tonight five local blues bands will battle it out at Jazzbones. The winner of tonight's Journey to Memphis jam-off will have a chance, at some point, to go to Memphis for Blues Foundations International Blues Challenge. Tonight's contestants will include Blues Alliance 6-6:30 p.m.; Back ‘n’ Blue from 7-7:30 p.m.; James Howlett 8-8:30 p.m.; Loose Gravel and the Quarry 9-9:30 p.m.; Michal Miller 10-10:30 p.m.; and In the House 11-11:30 p.m. From midnight to closing, there will be a ridiculous (in a good way) mega-jam featuring all those remaining.  June 3, 6 p.m., 21+, $10, Jazzbones. â€" Paul Schrag

Harvey Danger

Harveydanger If you're anything like me you've spent some time in front of the boob tube. It's a very American tradition.  While other countries have cultures revolving around family or long-standing traditions, we have the boob tube.
It seems like a fair trade.
One of my favorite parts of watching television, besides the way my ass becomes physically part of the couch after eight hours or so, is the commercials â€" specifically the way they target an audience. For example, after 1 a.m., one out of every three commercials is for "Girls Gone Wild" or some sort of hot chat. It would seem the powers that be, the people controlling which commercials air when, have decided that after 1 a.m. everyone watching television is sitting lonely at home waiting for an exciting glimpse of flesh to help them gently glide off to sleep, after, well, you know.
They may be right.
It's the same way in the middle of the day, when every other commercial is for some sort of bogus school or vocational training. It really makes you wonder just how many people are sitting around out there jobless and listless, uneducated, waiting for an online university to send them a degree so they can start making the big bucks.
That's how it happens, right?
In one of the strangest things I've seen in awhile, tonight, Harvey Danger is slated to rock Devry University, in a benefit for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
I would never make fun of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, but DeVry University seems like fair game. Maybe I'm just bitter.  That degree I earned from those bastards in underwater Nintendo repair just hasn't resulted in the financial security I expected. It's a 107.7 "The End The Young & The Restless" show with Speaker Speaker and Mountain Con. Tonight, 8 p.m., all ages, DeVry University, 3600 S. 344th Way, Federal Way. â€" Matt Driscoll

He said 'Stone'

Oregon writer Nik Dirga discovers similarities between The Stone Roses and Sly and the Family Stone as he reviews books based on the bands.

  • Blogcritics reports: At first glimpse, the only thing that the Stone Roses and Sly and the Family Stone have in common is the word "stone."  But both bands offer a peculiar cautionary tale of skyrocketing success followed by spiraling failure and seclusion. Two compelling new books in the music-criticism 33 1/3 series take on these bands' stories, and of their hits and missed potential. Alex Green's The Stone RosesThere's A Riot Goin' On. While you wouldn't necessarily think to link the Roses' psychedelic guitar-rock and Sly's funky groove, their stories have strong parallels.  More here. â€" Brad Allen

The Smithereens at Jazzbones tonight

Patdinizio Pat DiNizio has been around. Once front man for the murky brit-pop influenced rock band The Smithereens, he has done everything from rock alongside the Ramones to run for Senate. No, really. He ran for Senate.
Lately, DiNizio has decided it would be romantic to play at people’s houses and has spent a great deal of time jamming for hours in people’s living rooms. He claims on his Web site that the intimacy of playing to a small audience is unlike any other performance experience, and it has encouraged him to continue playing tidy little clubs and in relatively small towns. This is a one-time chance to see an underground legend in all his glory. Don’t miss it. Tonight, 8 p.m., all ages until 11 p.m., $15, Jazzbones. â€" Paul Scrag

Is Paris Hilton the new Gwen Stefani?

Paris Hilton's new song is posted on Stereogum, as well as her boob.

  • Stereogum reports: Holy shit! What's wrong with me? I actually like this song. It's slick and unadventurous, but that chorus is undeniable. One could easily imagine Gwen Stefani delivering the reggae-lite nugget. Even Paris' inflections reek of L.A.M.B.. Her voice is passable â€" she's no, um, Brittany Murphy â€" but since Ashlee Simpson topped the charts, my expectations for pop stars have been lowered.

Rest of the story, the downloadable song, and her boob, are here. â€" Brad Allen
