The Matador proprietors officially took control of their space on 8th and Pacific today (there's been a hold up due to some retrofitting of the building). My boys will begin renovating the location this week, and I'll be providing them with T-Town nightlife familiarity tours after their hard-day's work. The projected opening date is now Sept. 1. Prepare yourself for fine tequila selections, metal artifacts on the walls, tables with longhorn skulls carved in via custom carpentry, hundreds of twinkle candles and a semicircular bar that surrounds a flume-covered fire pit.  My very own Feisty Kevin, one of the most famous Seattle bartenders, will be managing the joint. Are certain restaurant spaces jinxed?  Is it true that no matter how good a proprietor's intentions may be, his or her restaurant will fail because it's in a space occupied by a string of failures?  Take, for example, Vive Bene in Lakewood.  This Italian-ish lunch and dinner house recently opened serving decent food.  It's a great place for lunch.  There's no reason they can't make it as a business.  And yet, this space has seen a number of train wrecks â€" scandals, divorce, bankruptcies. 
Will Vive Bene fall victim to the same specters?  I hope not. 
My recent lunch was a pleasant experience.  The lasagna was meaty and firm, the service excellent, and the portion sizes large.  They open at 6 a.m. with morning coffee, and stay open to 9 p.m. serving a menu mostly of pasta, salads and sandwiches with a few interesting seafood selections.  I plan to go back.  I hope they are still there when I do.  11126 Gravelly Lake Drive SW, Lakewood. She knocked you dead in that red dress at Fender's.  You fell in love with her several times at Jazzbones.  Tonight, 37-year-old Portland chanteuse Storm Large battles it out in Round 3 of the CBS TV show "Rockstar: Supernova."  She's been strutting the last two rounds.  Her voice has secured her a pass both times.  However, the three judges and potential band mates if she wins â€" drummer Tommy Lee, guitarist Gilby Clarke and bassist Jason Newsted â€" want her to rock out more.  And that's what she promises tonight at 9 p.m. 8 p.m. Central).

Right now 300 people are smashed together in a steaming hot Northwest Room at the Tacoma Public Library Main Branch screaming "Harry Potter!" everytime opening band Draco and the Malfoys mention anything from the "Harry Potter" book series.  Two hundred people are screaming "foul!" as they were turned away at the door.  Those kids who did make it in are of all ages and sizes with quite a few really young ones running away from their parents.
Draco and the Malfoys lead singer Bradley voices wavers a few times as he sings: "My dad is rich/And your dad is dead/
My dad is rich and your dad is dead" from their song "My Dad Is Rich."

I've been kicked, tossed around, pushed and flicked in the ear by book worms.
Draco and the Malfoys have finished their set at the Tacoma Public Library's Northwest Room.  I enjoyed their "99 Death Eaters" song to the tune of "99 Luftballoons."  I'm definitely going to write about them for the school paper.
K recording artist Jason Anderson is performing right now as Harry and the Potters set up. 
There are around 150 kids outside this room with their ears to the door.  Another 100 or so are mulling about smartly outside the building.  These disenfranchised youth love the Harry and love to rock.
"Here you go son."  I just gave some kid his protractor back.

As 300 kids elbow me in the knees I can't help think.  How many of these soccer moms drove their kids to see Harry and the Potter perform at the Tacoma Public Library tonight thinking this was educational?  Instead, they have planted the seed of rock into Junior.  Next stop, School of Rock.
My other thought as I watched these two dorks on speed rock their Potters off is â€" Did Tacoma Public Library Community Relations Manager David Domkoski really realize what he was getting himself into?  He did an awesome promoting and running this show.  He also has his top button undone and gallons of sweat is pouring off him.  He looks exhausted.
Nice job David.  Now run across the street to Syren Lounge and throw a few, well-earned brews back.
Whoa, Harry and the Potters have turned punk.  With many Bush undertones, they belt out "Cornelius Fudge is a Butthead" while trashing about. â€" Brad Allen
