The wine guys (winos? winers? What's the right term?) at Water to Wine (9014 Peacock Hill Ave., Gig Harbor, (253) 853-9463) are pouring (complimentary) two whites and two reds from 3-6 p.m. today. â€" Jason de Paul
Here's what they're pouring (in their words):
Firriato Grillo ’04, $14.99
This is the quintessential summer wine for sipping on the deck or pairing with light fish and poultry dishes. It’s crisp and clean with more body and flavor than a pinot grigio.
Isenhower Snapdragon ’05, $18.99
This wine sells out quickly every year. It is a blend of Roussane and Viognier, but don’t let the grape names scare you off. I think this wine will appeal to Chardonnay drinkers who have tired of Chardonnay, but still want a white that has more body than pinot gris or sauvignon blanc.
Dominio de Tares ‘Baltos’ Bierzo ’04, $13.99
Bierzo is one of my favorite new regions in Spain. The wines are made from a grape called Mencia, which is thought to be related to Cabernet Franc. The wines have some mineral quality and spice that I find immensely appealing and are really great with grilled meats.
Domaine de L’ Ameillaud ‘Carainne’ Cotes-du-Rhone ’04, $17.99
Cotes-du-Rhones are my go-to-wines for all kinds of occasions. They can be simple everyday table wines or full-bodied bruisers to enjoy with a steak. This one is a blend of Grenache and Syrah and is on the bigger side. Lots of fruit, spice and some good structure.
