Dockyard Derby Dames tryouts

By weeklyvolcano on November 20, 2006

I saw sparkrobot's post via exit133's post regarding the Dockyard Derby Dames upcoming tryouts and that cranked the hamster and wheel in my head.

"I want roller skates!"

Not Rollerblades, which may or may not be "in" anymore for all the attention I've paid to them, but good old-fashioned skates. And I don't want to skate someplace where men are acting extra friendly toward me because they're thinking perverted Rollergirl thoughts, and do remember that a kick to the groin with one of these puppies would do irreparable damage, if it came to that.

Nope, I want to skate for Tacoma's only all-girl, flat-track roller derby league â€" the Dockyard Derby Dames.  The Dames are holding tryouts Sunday, Dec. 3, in time for the spring 2007 league start.  Girls must be 21 and older, and according to their press release, must "possess grit, determination, and derby desire." Me, me, and so me.

The Dames say prior experience is not necessary, just a great attitude. â€" Suzy Stump
