Holiday shopping goes big

Perhaps it’s the ultimate Christmas gift?

The concept of Art Concepts on Broadway, a 25-year-old art gallery/frame shop institution located at 924 Broadway, is about to come to an end, with owner/operator Bob Mead announcing his intent to close up shop, stating in a press release, “I am announcing my desire to retire to take care of health concerns and other personal matters.”

He’s hoping the sale of the business will keep the well-respected name in operation, where it can prosper through the “increased success given Tacoma’s growing vitality and the influx of many new urban dwellers.”

He also says if he can’t find an interested buyer, he’ll close at the year’s end, and hold a liquidation sale.

Sure, the Weekly Volcano loves bargain pricing on art inventory, equipment, materials, and fixtures, but it’s so much nicer to see a business continue, don’t you think?

And just imagine the smile on her face when she sees not a three-carat De Beers diamond, but the deed, Santa Baby.
