Kid Rock at the Fair

TONY ENGELHART: ROCK AND RAP AND ROLLER COASTERS >>>

Like Motor City madmen before him â€" Ted Nugent, Bob Seger, Iggy Pop â€" Kid Rock bleeds grease while sweating oil.

Determined not remain pigeonholed in any one genre, he has released such straight up rock singles as “Feel Like Making Love” and collaborated with Sheryl Crow on the heart filled ballad “Picture.” Rock has even gone a bit country, which connected him with Hank Jr. and blue collar America.

His last effort, Rock N Roll Jesus, finds him borrowing riffs from southern fried classic rock tunes such as “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Night Moves” while interjecting his identifiable hardcore attitude.

Kid Rock will rock the Puyallup Fair tonight and, I bet, with an F-bomb or two. Unlike Monday’s Black Crowes show, there will be no free grandstand tickets tonight.

[Puyallup Fairgrounds, 7:30 p.m., $30-$60 at Ticketmaster, Ninth and Meridian, Puyallup, 253.841.5045]
