Time for church

MATT DRISCOLL: THE COH, THAT IS >>>

Church of Hate The Church of Hate is a Tacoma staple â€" like Frisco Freeze or Chihuly or bums pulling crack out of their asses. For more than 10 years now the boys in the Church of Hate have been bludgeoning eardrums all over our fair city with Slayer-like riffs, breakneck beats and disparaging and vile lyrical content â€" to the delight of the metal masses who know better than to take the band too seriously. That’s the beauty of the Church of Hate. They’re louder, meaner, scarier and â€" to top it all off â€" more ironic than your hipster mullet and mustache will ever be. A search of my computer database reveals I first wrote about the Church of Hate in 2001 â€" and I was late to the game. Something tells me the COH will be around with the cockroaches.

Today the band will brutalize Hell's Kitchen in Tacoma.

Shout Out: Red Jacket Mine, Erotic Art Show

STEVE DUNKELBERGER: EMPTY CLUB, SEX >>>

Last Night's club victim was Red Jacket Mine who played a great set in front of eight people at The New Frontier Lounge. James Hilborne and The Painkillers at Uptone Studio and the Girl Trouble show at the Acme stole a few people away from the Tacoma Dome District club.

Shout Out: James Hilborne and the Painkillers

RON SWARNER: MAGICAL >>>

Pain-2 Last night three-dozen guests squeezed into Uptone Studio in Tacoma for James Hilborne and the Painkiller's intimate CD release party. A slice of Tacoma's young and old music scene â€" including members of Girl Trouble and The Plastards before their sets down the street at the Acme Grub Cage â€" hugged, munched on popcorn and chatted up the old times. I snapped a couple of shots of the Painkillers before kicking back on the floor and losing myself in their music. It was one for my scrapbook.

Black Water Cafe closed?

JAKE DE PAUL: THEIR COFFEE ISN'T THE ONLY THING DARK >>>

Dropped by Black Water Cafe yesterday for an afternoon pick-me-up. It was closed. Hot Tipper Jason says they are closed for good. The phone is disconnected. I can't confirm.

This is sad news if true. I loved that joint.

Anybody have details?
