SUZY STUMP: URBAN ART FESTIVAL â€" NOW WITH MORE RUBBER >>>

You’ve probably seen the posters with the classic car below the paintbrushes (look right). If you haven’t seen them, you’re probably living in the wrong century, or at least the wrong part of the South Sound. The poster sets the stage for this year’s version of the Urban Art Festival, titled Iron Vs. Art â€" which will add classic cars to what’s typically a classic mix of art, music, barefootedness and dreadlocks.

With Hotrod-a-Rama on hiatus this year, organizer Johanna Gardner has teamed up with the Lifters Car Club and The Swiss Pub for her downtown Tacoma festival Saturday. Expect art exhibits, music (live and DJ), a beer garden, live painting, food, dancing, performance art, healing arts practices, demonstrations, and now â€" badass cars.

2. The Tacoma Community College Summer Orchestra will perform Dvorak’s 9th Symphony (the “New World Symphony”) and other pieces for free at 11 a.m. inside TCC's Building 3 Auditorium.

3. It will be downright Mayberry during the Proctor Arts Fest when live music, craft booths, loads of kids’ activities and the usual treat and vegetable selection at the market hit the Proctor Business District from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

4. Pierce County middle and high school students will have the chance to discover how they can attain a “natural high” at the “What’s Your Natural High?” event from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Stewart Heights Park and Pool.

5. Greta Matassa, her quartet, and her special guest, local legend saxophonist Gary Scott (Frank Sinatra's longtime touring partner) will fill the Dockside Bistro & Wine Bar with jazz from 7-10 p.m.

PAUL SCHRAG: HELL’S BELLES PLAYS TWO SHOWS TONIGHT >>>

There are few things in the world as electric as the music of Aussie rock legends AC/DC. Except perhaps the songs that made them legends being murdered (hip-hop vernacular, kids. It means performed really, really well) by Hell’s Belles. The Belles play all AC/DC all over the globe, from “High Voltage” to “Back in Black.” Even Angus Young gives the female AC/DC tribute band props. Mandy Reed, Adrian Conner, Lisa Brisbois, Melodie Zapata, and singer Jamie Nova will be at Hell’s Kitchen tonight for an all ages and 21 and older show.

In the electronic age of popular job search sites, posting resumes is deemed nearly hopeless in this time of layoffs. Face-to-face meetings are what give job seekers a better opportunity for a career change or advancement. Networking appears to be the name of the game.

“Networking is the single most powerful marketing tactic to accelerate and sustain success for any individual or organization,” according to a quote posted on Strategic Business Network’s Web site. But for the newly unemployed, finding a group with which to exchange business cards and ideas can prove daunting.

Dawn Justin, agency owner of Farmer’s Insurance located on Bridgeport Way in Lakewood, has come up with a solution.

“I was actually looking for something like this for myself,” Justin explains. “I wanted a no-cost way for people to measurably grow profits by coming together, making lasting connections, and learn about promoting local businesses.”

Justin posted her newly formed Purpose Driven Networking (aka PDN) events on Facebook. It took immediate hold. In July more than 50 people showed up to make new connections and promote their businesses.

“I like the idea of putting money in everyone’s pocket,” Justin says. “I also want to know about area businesses in more detail. That allows me, a business owner, to refer my top-of-the-line customers who grow local companies.”

Whether people are employed or not, all are welcome to attend PDN’s twice monthly informal gatherings, which run approximately two hours and are scheduled midweek, after work.

“A variety of business professionals attend PDN events,” Justin notes. “We have dentists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, landscapers, builders, political candidates seeking office, skin-care personnel, people in the beauty industry, IT professionals, and many more. It turns out, in this working world it truly is about whom you know. Joining a networking group is invaluable.”
