The Tacoma SIT IN

SUZY STUMP: BE THE CHAIR >>>

Chairshadow There’s more to you than meets the eye. There are parts of you even Superman can’t see. Even if you just sit around all day, and are not well traveled, your soul could be. So. A veritable fount of creativity sits inside you, just waiting to be released.

Tacoma guerrilla letterpress entity Beautiful Angle knows this about you. They know you need to express your soul. They sat down and thought about you. A lot. Until their asses hurt from sitting so long. And then it came to them.

A SIT IN.

And they know you’re in.

Beautiful Angle asks you, your soul and the rest of Tacoma to participate in their latest city-wide renegade art project called The Tacoma SIT IN.

There are at least three ways in which you can participate:

  1. Create an “Art Chair” and leave in out on the street in some conspicuous location.
  2. Create your own chair themed guerilla art.
  3. Bring a chair and a roll of blue painters tape to Tollefson Plaza Thursday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. Beautiful Angle will be creating a flash mob, art project. The first 50 people to show up, with said supplies, will receive the latest Beautiful Angle poster, which will include the talents of William Kupinse, former poet laureate of Tacoma, up and coming silkscreen artist Tyler Kalberg.

“We thought a chair is a great symbol for Tacoma, practical and inviting,” states Beautiful Angle co-founder Lance Kagey in a release.

So get off your chair and start creating. Your soul will thank you.

Leave It To Pitz

BOBBLE TIKI: 1950S STYLE, STUDENT-MADE VIDEO WINS FIRST PLACE FROM L&I >>>

Bobble-avatar-forums Bobble Tiki is curious why the Beav and Wally never got punished for the things they did. Just once Bobble Tiki wanted to see an episode where Beaver actually gets away with something. Could you just imagine Larry Mondello saying, “Gee Beaver, you finally got away with something.” And Beaver saying, “Yeah Bay-bee!” as they give each other a high-five at the end of the show.  Instead, the stupid Beav got stuck in a billboard of a bowl of soup.

Bobble Tiki mentions the Beav on account of Forrest Pitz, a student at the New Market Skills Center in Tumwater, taking first place in a new student safety and health video contest sponsored by the Department of Labor & Industries. Pitz’s winning video, The Wonderful World of Safety, has a ‘50s feel and look to it.

Check it out. It's swell.

Masa over easy

JAKE DE PAUL: ANOTHER BREAKFAST OPTION IN TACOMA >>>

John Xitco, co-owner of Masa Comida Mexicana, believes that morning is hardly the time to stop eating Mexican food. Beginning this Saturday morning, he’ll satisfy your craving for eggs, salsa, and tortillas. Push open the Sixth Avenue restaurant's massive double door, order a cup of Stumptown from Satellite Coffee, and groove on the surreal interior before diving into Xitco's selection of Mexican breakfast plates.

Open for breakfast Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Masa will serve a bevy of tasty options including: a burrito stuffed with scrambled eggs, crema, guacamole, pico de gallo, pepperjack cheese and taco meat for $8.75, a breakfast burger with a ground chuck patty, over-medium egg, queso fundido, bacon, pico de gallo on a potato bun for $8.75, huevos flatbread with queso fundido, scrambled eggs, house sausage, bacon, pico de gallo, and green onions on house made flatbread dough for $7.75, chilaquiles in red enchilada sauce for $8.75, huevos rancheros priced at $7.50, carne asada and eggs for $11.75, and more.

Of course, some mornings only an omelet will do, and even if you're a vegetarian, Masa will have what you're hankerin' for. Choose three of 18 tempting fillings, including gringo meat, chipotle chicken, smoked pork, carne asada, fajita vegetables, and caramelized onions.

On the other hand, there are those mornings when you feel like parking your carcass behind a stack of pancakes, French toast or eggs your way and drinking coffee until your skin hauls you out of the building. Don’t worry. For those occasions, Masa can help you, too.

And if you read the Weekly Volcano, chances are most mornings you like booze. Choose a $3.50 Masa Smirnoff Jalapeno Mary or $3.50 Masa Fruit Mimosa.

All breakfast items will be served with honey jalapeno home fries or rice and beans.

Masa is also including an NFL Weekly Pick-Em game on its breakfast menu. A $50 gift card will be given away weekly to the best guesser.

[Masa Comida Mexicana, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday beginning Sept. 5, 2811 Sixth Ave., Tacoma, 253.254.0560]
