THE LOWDOWN ON WHAT'S UP THIS WEEKEND >>>

WEATHER REPORT

Friday: Rain, hi 49, lo 38

Saturday: Partly sunny, hi 54, lo 34

Sunday: Partly sunny, hi 52, lo 34

>>> APRIL 15: Buddy Guy

What will you be doing when you're 74 years old? If you're anything like the Weekly Volcano the answer involves copious amounts of Scotch and being dead. Blues legend Buddy Guy, on the other hand, is still cranking out the music at 74 - he recently released a new record, Living Proof. According to hype, the record "takes a look back at (Guy's) remarkable life." Living proof. Get it? Friday, Guy comes to Tacoma and the Pantages Theater. Predictably, it's sold out.

>>> SATURDAY, APRIL 16: Eileen Ivers and Immigrant Soul

Eileen Ivers is legit. She's a Grammy Award winning musician. She starred in Riverdance. Hell, she's even a founding member of Cherish the Ladies. Saturday at the Pantages Theater, Ivers and Immigrant sould will deliver what the pre-show hype calls, "a delirious mix of traditional and original Irish airs, jigs, reels, grooves, songs and stories."

>>> SUNDAY, APRIL 17: Wayzgoose

There aren't enough places in the world where you can watch Tacoma stalwart sweet pea Flaherty drive a steamroller over stuff while simultaneously creating the art of letterpress. The annual Wayzgoose event at King's Books just happens to be one of them. Already in its seventh year (holy crap!), there's a reason Wayzgoose is on the lips of every artful Tacoman this time of year ... and, frankly, it has a lot to do with sweet pea driving a steamroller. Of course, the collection of letterpressers and book artists Wayzgoose brings together doesn't hurt. Check out who will be there here.

>>> WHERE OUR STAFF IS GOING

Going with my kiddo to see Alexander on Friday, and going with my hubby to see Cannibal on Sunday. Two things I never get to do - see a theatrical/musical production and go on a date with my husband! Sweet! Perhaps between that and working the bar, I can try not to agonize over whether or not my home loan will go through.

Remember how last week was all about cleaning my apartment? I'm sure you do, because I know you pay attention to this stuff. Well guess what? We only cleaned like two rooms. Whoooo! Fortunately it shall be interspersed with the usual Saturday trip to the Proctor Farmer's Market, D&D in a basement, and maybe even Where Sails Meet Rails w/Colonies at Doyle's.

BRETT CHIHON Meat Market Correspondent/Features Writer
Headed to Vanity Nightclub for Latin Night this weekend. This is about my third Latin themed club in the last two months. Que pasa?

CHRISTIAN CARVAJAL: Theater Critic
Amanda and I are celebrating our engagement with a trip to Seattle, starting with the Star Wars exhibit at the Pacific Science Center. It was pricey, but she begged and begged, so what could I do? (In a related note: Squee!)

MATT DRISCOLL: Editor
A rare weekend with zero toddler birthday parties to attend awaits. Looking forward to the Rainiers home opener tomorrow, and a Saturday of shopping for new TVs with my wife, which will inevitably lead to a depressing conversation about why America can't seem to watch TV on anything smaller than 46 inches.

JOANN VARNELL Theater Critic
The only thing planned other than grading papers and playing with my son is attending Tacoma School of the Arts' annual fundraiser - Artrageous. While there I will be decked in my fanciest frock and enjoying the entertainment that the students and John Curley provide.

STEVE DUNKELBERGER Meat Market Photographer
Kiddo weekend of Palm Sunday with Sonoro choir practice for our concert later this month.

Going out for pho at Vein Dong on Friday night. Volunteering to clean-up Pt. Defiance Park for Parks Day Saturday followed by a jaunt out to Gig Harbor to check out the new JW restaurant, and at the recommendation of Chef William at Babblin' Babs I'll buy some meat at Harbor Greens. Sunday, I'm barbecueing with friends after church in Auburn.
