Rock Tiki Say Visit Farrelli's Pizza Restaurants.

Rock Tiki spends a lot of time on Ft. Lewis, mostly spending the days bowling and the evenings at Carey Theater, but Rock Tiki likes to go out after this hard day of work, so Rock Tiki goes to Farrelli's. Just across the freeway from Joint Base Lewis McChord, Farrelli's Pizza in Dupont serves as the perfect place for lunch or after work drinks.

The Farrelli's chain has locations in Lacey, DuPont, Sumner, Tacoma, Parkland, and Maple Valley. The menu at Farrelli's is inclusive of what one would expect from a pizza joint offering breadsticks, calzones,  salads, and, of course, pizza, as well as offering common bar foods such as nachos and hot wings. The bar menu features happy hour specials and lots of tasty mixed drinks, shots, wine, and several beers on tap as well as bottled beer.

Besides great food and drinks, Farrelli's offers two billiards tables, big screen televisions, and a well-stocked jukebox. Anything can happen at Farelli's, Rock Tiki remembers a gang of roller derby girls, supposedly after a big win, violently molesting a newly 21 year old with a shrill rendition of the birthday song. Farrelli's is truly packed on Fridays and Saturdays and a great place for a night out. For more information, visit www.farrellispizza.com.

Tool and Rage Against The Machine Tribute

Believin' all the lies that they are tellin' ya
Buyin' all the products that they are sellin' ya
They say jump, ya say how high
Ya brain dead
Ya gotta f*ckin' bullet in your head

These are lyrics from Rage Against The Machine’s song, “Bullet in Your Head.”

“Bullet in Your Head” is also the name of a Rage tribute band set to play this Saturday at the Backstage Bar and Grill in Tacoma.

Also rocking the stage will be Tool tribute band, Hookerfist. Special guests Pilot to Bombairder, will also rage the stage.

“I took the whole weekend off,” said Denise Bellarra, employee at Backstage. “The show’s going to be amazing.”

When I asked Bellarra what she would say to someone who might miss the show, she replied, “They’d be an idiot.”

Show starts at 9 p.m. and is all ages until 11 p.m. $10 - $15 at the door. Backstage Bar and Grill, 6409 6th Ave, Tacoma, 253.564.0149.

There's a lot of cool-shit going-on this weekend. With all that in mind, tonight at California Club will definitely be the place to be. If "Town Binnis" is what you're into - then don't miss Lebowski's return home show. It's been two years since Lebowski had a show in his hometown. Ya'll can catch short-sets from Kept See, Chris Crayzie, Yak Nasty, Motamouth Jones, Second Family, Leezy Soprano, and Doughkain, Cool Beanz and Rize. Of course Lebowski will be headlining. Tickets are $15 presale/ $20 door, call 253 606-4099 to get. Doors open at 9 and with a line-up that big I'm pretty sure it'll start on time.

If ya don't have enough spine to go to California Club - go see Lil Ripp and Sky Pilot at The Live Room tonight in Sumner. Or catch Everlast, formerly of House of Pain, performing an all-acoustic set at Jazz Bones on Saturday. Local M.C. Mike Drastic opens that show up.

The Americans Across the Street opens

Just in time for the political fervor that an election year heaps upon us all, the State Theater in Olympia is putting on a production of "The Americans Across the Street"-a wickedly comedic play about a one-man war against American greed.

The plot revolves around Derek Slaughterhouse, an award-winning author who slips off the deep end after being fed up with the political system. To fight back, he declares a one-man guerilla war on American greed, dragging his sister and teenage daughter into the trenches with him.

Expect much swearing, drinking, and drug use interwoven with the plot. In other words, leave the small children at home and enjoy this cynical romp without tainting the ears of the young.

Show times this week are: 8/24 at 8 p.m.; 8/25 at 8 p.m.; and 8/26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $31 for regular admission, $28 for military and seniors, and $20 for students.

Lemay Museum debuts Meet at the Ace Festival

Polished steel, exhaust, gaskets, clutches and torque. If the first image that popped up was of an automobile, then you'd be half correct.  Cut the car in two, remove the roof and add a kickstand then finally the finished product might look something like a motorcycle.  However, if seeing motorcycles in abstract daydreams isn't enough to please, then Lemay - America's Car Museum in Tacoma is sure to hold people over.

Meet at the Ace: a Summer Shakedown, set for this weekend, marks the debut of an event that showcases vintage motorcycles and scooters from a plethora of celebrated makers such as Harley-Davidson, Ducati, Triumph, BMW and more. Attendees can patrons can expect a welcome handful of entertainment, music and food.

"Many of us are motorcyclists within the LeMay board administration," said Burt Richmond, co-chairman of Meet at the Ace. "We felt that we needed to do a festival that really reached further than just four wheel interest, and see if we could put something together that would attract more people and invite a larger net of folks who are interested in two or three wheels."

The festival will display rare and classic motorcycles and scooters from the turn of the 20th century up until the year 1980, all of which still run. These mechanical works of art span from all across the globe, from North America to Europe.

"We would like to introduce people to the motorcycling world," Richmond said.  "We've invited 20 manufacturers like Honda, Harley, Triumph and Ducati; just to name a few, that will be showcasing modern products you can actually buy at your local dealership."

But there's more to this celebration than it appears.  Meet at the Ace will also feature live bands on rotation from 3 to 7 p.m., countless food vendors, a concours, swap meet and even motorcycle themed movies. Participants will additionally be able to savor a ride on a motor bike around the 3.5 acre Haub Family Field, or even enjoy watching a bicycle motocross stunt display.

Ticket prices to the event, which includes admission to the museum, are $25 for adults, military/students/seniors (65 and older) are $18, youth (ages 5-12) are $8 and children 5 and younger are free. Tickets can be purchased at the event.

A "Ride to Rainier" will take place Aug. 26 as part of the motorcycle festival and in conjunction with Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts (VME).

Eastside Big Tom For President

Vote Big Tom for President 2012. And don't forget the tots and goop.

Eastside Big Tom’s in Olympia is not just your typical drive-thru burger joint. Home of the “goop,” a delicious blend of mayo, mustard, pickle relish and secret salad dressing sauce, Eastside Big Tom’s is an Olympian favorite.

Eastside Big Tom’s and its goop are even featured in George Motz’s book, Hamburger America.

Besides the goop and friendly service, what sets this place apart is that it can be somewhat of a roadside attraction. There is a wood cut-out where patrons can stick their face through and take pictures of themselves as “Big Tom.”

Right now, there are campaign signs around town stating “Big Tom for President - Goop 2012,” as they are participating in a competition with LimeBerry to be the best in the land. This campaign is to raise funds and awareness for the Crisis Clinic of Thurston & Mason Counties.

And during Halloween, the parking lot always has a spooky feel, as the owner sets up creepy and cool decorations.

On Facebook, there are pictures of employees dressed in laboratory coats pretending to bring hamburgers to life and wielding chainsaws with captions saying they’d be happy to cut your burger in half.

Eastside Big Tom’s also offers outside seating and have been known to make custom shakes. According to Facebook, just recently, Olympia resident Jusby the Clown brought in an avocado, which employees happily blended up.

Boiled down, Eastside Big Tom’s has great food and great personality. They have my vote. www.eastsidebigtom.com.

Open 10:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. 2023 4th Ave., Olympia, 360.357.4852.
