Harbor Days in Olympia

By Nikki Talotta on August 30, 2012

This weekend, Harbor Days is back in Olympia for its 39th year.

A showcase of tugboats, vintage and new, a celebration of the harbor, and the always fun tugboat races make up the annual event at Percival Landing in downtown Olympia.

For three days, arts and crafts vendors, food and entertainment, and tours of working and retired tugboats take over the landing, allowing young and old to explore the world of tugboats.

The vintage tugboat races begins at noon on Sunday, watch as the awesome vessels leave shore and make their way into the deep channel of the Sound.

A bonus this year is that Percival Landing’s Phase 1 rebuilding project is complete, with beautiful new amenities and attractions that add to the well-loved landing. Event-goers can enjoy the covered pavilions and new walkways.

Another bonus this year is an exclusive kid’s section with camel rides, building projects and activists, says Shelly Lively, event organizer.

Dozens of tugboats, maritime heritage and tons of fun – that’s Harbor Days in a nutshell.

“The whole thing is going to be absolutely spectacular,” says Lively.

Located at 222 Columbia St NW. Event runs August 31 – September 2. www.harbordays.com
