The Dometop Mural - One of the Tacoma Murals Project's Newest

By Kristin Kendle on August 27, 2012

The Tacoma Murals Project is in full force for the summer and T-town is getting new murals as you read this. That's right. Right now, a mural is being born. Right now, artists are painting their souls onto a wall that needed love. Right...now.

Unless you're reading this at night and then they're totally not.

One of the murals already completed is the Dometop mural, painted on a retaining wall of the 3200 block of East L Street. The mural is so long that capturing the entire mural in a photo is impossible. The long stretch of concrete is decked out with colorful plants, fruits, bugs, and animals. An especially cool feature is that the retaining wall attaches to a flight of stairs-and the mural climbs right up the stairs.

All Murals Projects murals are done by teams consisting of a lead artist (or artists) paired with learning muralists. Along with beautifying walls around town, the project aims to teach new muralists so that they might go forth and make more murals. The Dometop mural was led by artists Rachael Dotson and Jeremy Gregory. The artist team was made up of Yvette Simone, Chelsea O'Sullivan, and Natalie Oswald.
