SPEAKING OF SANDWICHES ... >>>

5th on 4th is the name of the new drive-thru(!) and sit-down restaurant in Olympia. And true to its cute name - the joint is the new venture of 5th Ave Sandwich Shop.

Located at the old Subway building on Fourth Avenue, just before you hit Olympia's Eastside neighborhood, the sandwich shop is exploring a new avenue - burgers, fried foods and shakes. Opening day was Tuesday, April 2.

"It's something that customers have always wanted," explains owner Melody Morgan. "They say we make awesome sandwiches and that we'd make awesome burgers."

A bleu cheese burger, BBQ bacon, salmon burger, garden burger and even a farmer burger - with fried ham and egg - grace the menu. Chicken strips are also featured.

Morgan and her husband, Rick, have branched off from their family business downtown, which opened seven years ago, to own and operate 5th on 4th.

"My mom started a restaurant in Longview and I grew up in the kitchen," says Melody. After moving to Olympia and having children of her own, Melody reflects on how important the business is to her family. "It's our kids future, too."

5th on 4th also serves staple menu items from its downtown location, such as cold and hot sandwiches made with homemade bread, salads, soups and cookies. The 5th Ave Sandwich Shop made it to the Sliced 16 in the Weekly Volcano's Tournament of Sandwiches.

Open Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., the business is already experiencing a boom of happy customers. A recent visit revealed booths of smiling people, regulars from the downtown location, and a bustling, friendly vibe.
