>>> FRIDAY, APRIL 19: SCEINCE!

Did you make it to the Weekly Volcano's 2013 Best of Olympia party? If so, then you had the chance to see Science! perform live on stage in between an entourage of scantily clad burlesque girls. Friday, the rising duo will perform a free set at The Pig Bar on Legion Way. Expect warmth and positive energy bouncing between their singer/songwriter performance and the cozy walls of one of the better small venues in town. Science! has a clean performance, their fingers whittling their guitars, carving out genuine jams and complex chords. The band has an easy-going vibe and leaves you wanting more. - Nikki McCoy

>>> FRIDAY, APRIL 19-SUNDAY, APRIL 21: ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL

Nature nurtures both our physical and artistic instincts. A filmmaker, for instance, looks about and sees Earth as one vast mise-en-scène, its raw materials photographed in endless combinations to suit infinite stories. The Olympia Film Society's fourth annual Environmental Film Festival, April 19-21, celebrates a few of those stories that carry a unifying message: lean, clean and green, baby. See the Olympia Film Society website for a list of films.

>>> SATURDAY, APRIL 20: RECORD STORE DAY

Who ever said vinyl is dead? This Saturday is Record Store Day, a day to celebrate music with some of the most anticipated vinyl releases of the year. Record Store Day began in 2008 as a way to attract music fans to dying record stores. Since then it has become a marker day for artists from all over the world to release special edition vinyls, new albums, and rare singles. This year is no exception with music from MGMT, Rob Zombie, All That Remains, The Beat Junkies, Botch, Sigur Ros, Flaming Lips, The Hold Steady, Linkin Park, Mumford & Sons, Paul Weller and hundreds of others. Participating stores in the South Sound can be found in the Weekly Volcano's all-ages music column. Rocket Records will host live music, too. For the full roster of swag for sale, visit RecordStoreDay.com. Then show your local disk pushers some love. They deserve it.

>>> SATURDAY, APRIL 20: WINGMAN BREWERS PARTY

Drinking at noon? Why yes, Wingman Brewers 2nd Anniversary Party, we'd be happy to. Imbibe on 10 taps, including some special brews just for the occasion? Of course we will. Settle into one of your many new seats and enjoy good company? Absolutely. - NM

>>> SATURDAY, APRIL 20: THE AMALGAMATED DANCE AND STAGE WORK

Hey, so this is exciting: Olympia has a new variety show - The Amalgamated Dance and Stage Work series. Saturday kicks off the first set, which will happen every third Saturday of the month at The Olympia Ballroom. From the event hype, "...where local and regional performers will gather to present original and compelling performance pieces. Dance, acrobatics, aerial, puppetry, music, story, theatre, contortion... The artforms will change from month to month, but each night will surely showcase some of the best physical and musical performances on the west coast. Not always easy, this show hopes to approach the gamut of being human." - NM

>>> SATURDAY, APRIL 20-SUNDAY, APRIL 21: 24 HOUR MOVIE MARATHON

The weekend of April 20-21, The Grand Cinema is hosting its first ever 24 Hour Movie Marathon. This is an event the movie house has wanted to do for a long time, but finally moved forward with this year as a support event for its Digital Conversion Campaign — to which all proceeds from the marathon will go. There is much to know about the 24 Hour Movie Marathon. Just like a real marathon, those who game-plan ahead of time will be far better equipped to successfully champion the 24HMM. With that in mind we thought it would be appropriate to share some advice and considerations from the folks who are planning the event: Zach Powers' five 24 Hour Movie Marathon survival tips in the Weekly Volcano's Movies section.

WHAT SOME OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS ARE UP TO

CHRISTIAN CARVAJAL Theater Critic
I'm seeing The Rainmaker at Lakewood Playhouse and hosting a first reading of a new book-to-play adaptation. Also, we've started rehearsals on Legally Blonde at Capital Playhouse, in which I'm portraying a guy who can't dance.

REV. ADAM MCKINNEY Music Writer
This Saturday, I intend on blowing some hard-earned money to expand my vinyl collection in honor of Record Store Day. It's a measly collection, at present, to be sure.

ALEC CLAYTON Arts Critic
Going to see The Rainmaker at Lakewood Playhouse and a reading by Barbara Gibson at Orca Books and the new show at Fulcrum Gallery.

NIKKI MCCOY Feature Writer
Friday I will celebrate the end of the school/work week with all The Brotherhood regulars and passersby that need some happy hour lovin'. Saturday I plan to brave the world of dress shopping as I hunt with my niece for her perfect senior prom dress. We will probably grab a bit to eat afterward, then hit the early performance of the new variety show in town - The Amalgamated Dance and Stage Works.

JOSH RIZEBERG Music Columnist
I'll be teaching my Spoken Word Poetry class at D.A.S.H Center for the Arts Saturday from 1-2 p.m. Then later that day myself and the other founding-members of the Tacoma South Sound area Universal Zulu Nation will be meeting. Sunday, at 9 p.m. at Benchwarmers in Kent - my hip-hop group, Beanz & Rize, will be opening up for Equipto, L'Roneous, Mike Marshall and the Bayliens! All San Francisco underground hip-hop legends!

TIMOTHY GRISHAM Music Writer
Saturday is Record Store Day and nerds around the country will be shiving each other for that one piece of limited vinyl they have been dreaming about for weeks. I have my shank sharpened and ready to go.

NIC LEONARD Music Writer
I have a kind of boring yet music-oriented weekend ahead of me. I will not be out and about whatsoever because I will be recording music Friday night and all afternoon Saturday. Saturday evening I have to help edit the new Free Whiskey music video. Sunday will be spent doing laundry and in the evening I may take part in a homie poker game.

JACKIE FENDER Food Writer
If I'm feeling especially sassy I'll be checking out my soul sisters band at Lochs Friday evening. Saturday, I'm looking forward to a lady date that involves doughnut noshing followed by Legally Blonde at Tacoma Musical Playhouse. While Sunday will be full of reading, writing and maybe some brunch.

ADRIENNE KUEHL Food Writer
I'll be celebrating some friends' birthdays this weekend in Seattle. Beyond that, hoping to make it to the South Tacoma Farmers Market, get some dog walking in and visit the newly opened Savor Creperie.

ROCKFORD ROWLEY All-ages Music Columnist
Saturday a good part of my day will be spent rationalizing the excessive amounts money I spend on records with the fact that it is Record Store Day 2013. What's left of my day after that will likely find me catching a portion of The Grand Cinema's 24-hour Movie Marathon.

STEVE DUNKELBERGER Nightlife Correspondent
I'll be heading to the Propbox Theater to watch auditions for its upcoming production of Beauty is a Beast, maybe the Junior Daffodil Parade and then Fort Steilacoom for History Day.
