By Kim Thompson on May 30, 2013

NASCAR lovers and car enthusiasts near and far, rev up your engines because there's a special event motoring into town that can't be missed. LeMay - America's Car Museum in downtown Tacoma is honored to play host to the "Legends of Motorsports: The NASCAR Story Exhibit." Be one of the first to get in on the action at the general public opening 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, on June 2.

In addition to the nine-acre museum campus that boasts four floors of museum space with thousands of vehicles and artifacts, LeMay is thrilled to bring the new exhibit into the fold.

"We are really looking forward to this," shares Scot Keller, chief of marketing and communications officer for the museum. "This is the largest and most ambitious exhibit that we've done at the museum so far."

And while the exhibit is sure to satisfy the most rabid NASCAR fan, it also provides interest, imagination and history to everyone.

The exhibit begins with NASCAR creator and visionary Bill France Sr. who formed the organization in 1948. After learning about NASCAR's roots, the exhibit highlights and pays homage to the early and modern NASCAR drivers, and other NASCAR history and details.

Let's not forget the cars. There will be 14 beautifully preserved cars of today and yesteryear on opening day, including a special car that belonged to the beloved late racing legend Dale Earnhardt.

In addition to the exhibit opening Sunday, the museum offers an extended celebration with live entertainment from the Kim Archer Band, free commemorative posters to the first 500 entrants and racing simulators available for a small fee to get a unique NASCAR experience. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase.

LeMay - America's Car Museum is pleased and honored to welcome the military community. Active military receive discounted admission rates and 10 percent off annual memberships. Check the museum's website for more information on the museum, rates, hours and directions.
