Summer is here, and she bestows upon us her finest offerings: sunny days, sultry nights and my favorite - weddings.
But, the devil is in the details, and along with all the what-the-heck-do-I-buy-for-a- gift-decisions, there is always the inevitable what-the-heck-do-I-wear-decisions.
For me, throwing on a sundress with fun colors always seems to work. But, what a struggle it is digging through my man's wardrobe.
Are jeans too casual? What kind of tie? Or is a tie even required? How about shoes? Is a fedora still fashionable? Before my man says screw it and reaches for another plain black T-shirt, I thought I'd ask a pro, and share the advice with you.
"Weddings are a lot more diverse these days," says Greg Miller of g. miller men's clothing in Olympia, "And they have gotten more casual.
"This time of year we do things like light tans and light greys," he continues. "The guests are going along with the wedding party, with maybe a great looking sports jacket and a casual shirt. Linen is very popular right now and the trend is an importance to style - casual pants with style, flip flops that have style - not something you'd wear on a boat."
Miller also says shorts, Hawaiian shirts and tailored clothing are hot right now. "But pay attention to the style of the wedding," he warns. "You don't want to be too dressed up or too dressed down."
And according to TLC's how stuff works website, jeans are a definite no, and black is out (sorry honey). And MTV's Style website says fedoras have pull in the fashion department, "but it does not work for everyone." And when it comes to ties, skinny is in, but GQ Style.com favors the bow tie. "The bow is not for the timid of heart or the broad of face," GQ states. "If you have swagger, a bow tie can be a badge of courage."
Whatever your attire, be comfortable, have fun and when in doubt, ask the pros, like g. miller in Olympia and Feather and Oar in Tacoma.
