1. The Echo Echo Echoes are a Seattle band, far from the sunny beaches that they love to evoke. Though they call themselves a surf-pop band, and they have a song nostalgically titled "Surfer Girl," they are very quick to joke that wearing wetsuits and catching waves is something very far from their own experiences. Formed in Georgia in the mid-'80s, the Indigo Girls came up in a time and a place where bands like R.E.M. were mixing jangle and folk into their rock, with liberal doses of impressionistic lyrics and individualistic spirit. It was a time of blossoming artistic intent in the burgeoning alternative scene, and the Indigo Girls came along at just the right time to become entrenched in the movement. Read Rev. 4. Americana roots-rock singer/songwriter Ian McFeron will bring his mix of alt-country, acoustic based pop rock and blues to Gig Harbor's new all-ages venue The Gig Spot at 8 p.m.
5. DJ Hawlskee spins at New World VIP Lounge's Stop Light Party beginning at 9 p.m. He invites you to introduce yourself and share your relationships status by dress code. Yes, your dress shall reveal your availability: wear red (taken), yellow (single, depending on who's asking) or green (let's get it!). A cool concept party to start 2014 with one of the dopest DJs in the Puget Sound.
