Lakewood resident, military spouse and mother of three Jamie Johnson represented Joint Base Lewis-McChord at the 2014 Mrs. Washington America Pageant Jan. 18 in Bellevue.
Johnson's chosen platform was veteran Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) awareness and support. She also wanted to show her pride in being a military spouse and was thrilled to represent the military community in the event.
Although she didn't win the crown, the contestant did walk away a winner in another category and created a lifetime of memories as a part of the "class of 2014."
Johnson was the recipient of the Physical Fitness Award for the 2014 pageant. This award is presented to the most physically fit contestant; the objective is to promote women getting and staying in shape as they age. The directors and pageant staff select the award winner. Johnson, an avid marathoner and athlete, has competed in local running events, most notably the recent "Race for a Solider" half marathon in support of PTSD awareness.
And then there are the memories.
"I had an amazing experience with 26 gorgeous women," Johnson said. "Thanks to all of my supporters and sponsors and to the pageant director and staff for believing in me. I am very proud of my hard work to prepare for the pageant and my physical fitness award."
An interesting side note: fellow Lakewood resident and military spouse Carla Richards served as the pageant's Community Service Award consultant and assistant choreographer. Richards was crowned Mrs. Washington in 2010.
Karen Caldwell won the Mrs. Washington America Pageant 2014. Caldwell, with her husband, Ryan, own Caldwell Construction in Thurston County.
The Mrs. Washington America pageant is a pageant for married women of all ages and a preliminary to the Mrs. America and Mrs. World competitions. The organization's mission is to empower and mentor women to make a difference in the lives of others and in their communities.
