The Keg’s Sunset Martini

After a "few too many," I always wake up with a "did I eat a finger at Wendy's last night" taste in my mouth. As I've discussed with fellow members of the Institute of Liberal Libations, the taste is often from the flesh dangling from the roof of my mouth due to pizza or the other obligatory greasy food I overcook at two in the morning with only one functioning eyeball. This more often than not happens after I have partied at the Keg Steakhouse and Bar.
The Keg is the type of establishment that puts "Steakhouse" first in its name, in the hopes of keeping out people like you or me. But don't be fooled by the nice name and setting: There's a great bar inside.   The Keg offers a spring drink, the Sunset Martini. This tasty, roof of the mouth safe drink features lemon vodka, peach schnapps, POM blueberry, pomegranate juice, lemon juice and a splash of soda.
The Keg even serves its full menu in the bar, where I'd recommend eating; that way, your inebriated state won't get you thrown out of the dining room.  The Keg Steakhouse & Bar, 2212 Mildred St. W., Tacoma, (253) 565-7300, and 4110 S. Meridian, Puyallup, (253) 845-5400. - Brad Allen

Egg-citing

Certain traditions adapt themselves as time travels on. Take the Easter egg hunt. It was fun when you were a kid - watching your parents crawl around, trying to hide a bright pink egg behind a sprinkler head. And there was always the added joy of finding one (hopefully unbroken) three months later. But now you're a parent, and well, its lost its charm. Or has it? The lovely folks at the Puyallup Rec Center Tracy Aviary host an Adult Flashlight Egg Hunt Friday night. You can now have an egg-ceptional (no, really, ceptions of eggs) time hunting for the eggs hidden on the Puyallup Rec Center ball fields.  Maybe someone will even paint your face.  Friday, April 14, 10 p.m., 18 and older, $3, Puyallup Rec Center Ballfields, 808 Valley Ave. N.W., Puyallup, (253) 841-5457. - Suzy Stump

Freecycle

Freecycle is an online win-win situation. People who have stuff they want out of their lives post their goods online, then people who are looking for free stuff can search through tons of listings to make their life complete. It's like a giant free box of stuff.  All this occurs in cyberspace, but this weekend at the Puyallup Fairgrounds, Freecycle steps into the real world at the Pierce County Livable Communities Fair Saturday, April 8, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Freecycle's goal is to save items from reaching the landfill while creating community. Fair organizers estimate 15,000-20,000 people will attend this environment friendly and knowledge-increasing event. Plus, Ciscoe Morris, the madcap master gardener, will be broadcasting live on KIRO 710, which is sure to add more fun and hilarious mirth. Admission and parking is free, but do the right thing and bring a canned food item for the Rescue Mission. The Freecycle booth will be located on the first floor of the Pavilion and manned by area volunteers. Enter the Gold Gate entrance at Ninth Avenue S.W. and Meridian, Puyallup. - Jennifer Johnson

Again?

In the been there done that category, the Beach Boys are returning to the Puyallup Fair.  They should name the grandstand after these guys - They are perennial performers at the Western Washington Fair.  The Beach Boys play Sept 22.  Tickets go on sale April 8 at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster outlets. - Brad Allen

Make tracks

Downtown Puyallup, if you haven't noticed, is hell bent on becoming another great food and fun district in the South Sound.  Located a couple blocks west of the Puyallup fairgrounds, the energy sprouted with a robust farmers' market.  Trackside Pizza opened three weeks ago to be part of this growing trend. Offering both classic and foo-foo toppings, we'd recommend the Chihuahua al Pacifico: Italian sausage, pepperoni, jalapeno and loads of garlic.  it's open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.  201 N. Meridian St., Puyallup, (253) 845-7437.
