FUSE grand opening next week

ROCK MUSIC RETURNING TO RUSTON >>>

Wikipedia tells us that, "In electronics and electrical engineering a fuse (from the Latin "fusus" meaning to melt) is a type of ..."

Scratch that.

The residents of the Town of Ruston have short fuses due to political bickering and financial struggles ...

Nah.

The Ruston police will fuse ...

No.

I'm at a loss of how to cleverly introduce a new club/café called FUSE - Cafe Imbibery and Events that will open inside the Point Defiance Casino next week. Laurie Kimmel and her "team" have taken over the eastside of the casino, remodeled it, changed the menu and plan to bring "back music to Ruston" she states in an email.

In terms of music, FUSE will concentrate on rock and blues - with the hope of introducing a Sunday young musicians showcase.

Standard "American" fare will be served during breakfast and lunch hours; with a 3-5 p.m. bar menu and specials sheet during nights they host shows.

The official grand opening is 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 featuring the R&B band Loose Change from Vashon.

Our Fall Arts Guide cometh

RAMPING UP FOR OUR ANNUAL ARTS GUIDE >>>

Whoa, check out the calendar. Fall is on the way. And with the fall comes a slew of fun things to do, buy, eat, hear and more.

Our annual Fall Arts Guide will hit the South Sound streets Thursday, Sept. 9 chocked full of dance, theater, classical music, visual arts, literary suggestions - as well as where to eat and drink before and after the performances.

Added bonus: Tacoma artist Lance Kagey will design the guide's cover.

If you’re a South Sound arts organization, please send us your entire season's calendar here. We don’t want to leave anyone out. Please submit schedules by Friday, Aug. 27.

If you would like to support the Weekly Volcano's keepsake Fall Arts Guide, and reach our powerful, niche market, contact our advertising department at 253.584.1212 or by e-mail here.

Look for the Fall Arts Guide in the Weekly Volcano and at your favorite hangout Sept. 9.

Toilet Tales: Don's Ruston Market

STEPH DEROSA: POINT DEFIANCE MUSIC FESTIVAL >>>

Toilettalesdons Matt Driscoll and I split the emcee duties on the Weekly Volcano Rock Stage last Saturday at the Point Defiance Music Festival. I had to take the morning shift seeing as how Matt had his sperm donation appointment that morning. I know what you’re thinking, “Oh, great, just what Tacoma needs â€" more Driscoll in the gene pool.” Don’t fret, my friends, his donations are specifically used for scientific research in order to study the effects of drugs on a man’s reproductive system. So I suppose I’m fine with that.

As usual, I had Bandito Betty in tow for the music fest, and we hooked up with our other favorite rebel rouser, The KAke. Lunch approached and there was no doubt in my mind that we had to hit up Don’s Market for a cold sandwich. They make a mighty fine ham and cheese like mom used to make, and their old fashioned soda fountain is incomparable. Pick between any of their 15-or-so syrup flavors, and they’ll mix it up for you â€" fresh co2 and all.

Oh, since this IS Toilet Tales, I better mention Don’s bathroom. Read about its outhouse and more on the festival here.
