The Weekly Volcano's ever-expanding Nosh League made a ruckus in Dave's Meat and Produce Thursday, July 14. Members and newcomers packed tables erected in the aisles sipping on an endless stream of wine and beer in between bites of three different types of meat. Add awesome coleslaw, mound of fruit and two salad options ... it was well worth the impressively affordable $15 price. Most left with platefuls of leftovers.
Lakewood Pub and Grill has taken the bar term "meat market" literally with a meat raffle every Wednesday, when patrons drop $10 for 15 tickets to win premium cuts courtesy of Stewart's Meat Market ... or a $25 gas card. Choice wins include stacks of deli cut bacon and steaks, although the jerky packs are bonus. Photography by Steve Dunkelberger
Streets were closed to vehicle traffic from State Street to Cedar Street along Sixth avenue for the annual for the free, family-friendly Art on the Ave street fair. Despite what festival organizers say was record-breaking attendance, it was still easy to move up and down Sixth Ave for most of the day. That is, until the 3 o'clock hour neared and the entire block from the Jazzbones mainstage down to Oakes Street swam with fans of hometown-girl-done-good Vicci Martinez. - Jennifer Johnson.

Tacoma's diversity, both in its people and in its creative talent, was showcased at this weekend's Urban Arts Festival. Now in its seventh year, this year the two-day summertime event was held on the Thea Foss Waterway in a new(ish) park and walking area next to the Museum of Glass. A manicured lawn proved to be a perfect staging area for vendors, a beer garden and the main music stage. Weekly Volcano photographer Patrick Snapp was on the scene.
What started out as an all-age show at The Red Room in downtown Tacoma last night became one of the best examples of why I love the 253. The concert began at 8 p.m. with a scheduled tear down at midnight, but a noise complaint cut the show off at 10 p.m. Instead of slicing set times for the Dead Peasants and The Taxpayers to squeeze in a headlining set for the Fun Police, the show moved into the Fun Police's neighboring practice space. Mighty cool of the Fun Police, who will drop their new album July 9 at D.O.A. on Sixth Avenue. - Steve Dunkelberger
Backstage Bar & Grill owners Joy Hutt and Stephen Tippins tied the knot during their White Trash Mondays theme June 13. Complete with 40-ounce beers and all things fishnet, it was awesome. Weekly Volcano photographer Steve Dunkelberger was on the scene, too.

The Weekly Volcano was front-row center (and on stage) for Vicci Martinez's sold-out show Wednesday, May 18 at Jazzbones. It was a love-in. Although she was a little under the weather, you couldn't tell. Her professionalism and energy ran high and, as always, her humility in the face of such fan support was a treasure to witness. Her vocal range has never been better. Funk rockers Eclectic Approach opened. Photography by Steve Dunkelberger
The Gruv Lounge on Tacoma's Sixth Avenue passes over the usual Tuesday night trivia/goldfish races high jinks in favor of some swinging rockabilly. The music is a little bit country and a little bit rock 'n' roll, with pinup girls, hotrods and cheap booze in tow. Booze & tattoo night kicked off May 10 with the Black Top Demon band. Photographer Steve Dunkelberger was in the house.
The Ventures, the pioneering instrumental surf band formed in Tacoma 53 years ago, rocked the Crystal Ballroom in Portland Thursday, May 12. Before the show they held a meet-and-greet with VIP concert goers. A contingent from Tacoma attended the show. Photography by Pappi Swarner
