The true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston, who became an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf.
Johnny Depp, who stars as real-life Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger, is just too huge of a talent for Black Mass to be a total letdown, but given the lineup of other top-tier actors in the cast, a feeling of mild disappointment sets in long before the credits roll. This is a good, solid, well-executed crime story. Nothing more, nothing less. - Three stars
