After aspiring poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe fails his law exams, he's sent to a sleepy provincial court to reform. Instead, he falls for Lotte, a young woman who is promised to another man.
Tempestuous romantic fantasy based on bits and pieces of the German poet's youth, largely fictionalized. Alexander Fehling plays the young man who hates the prospect of becoming a lawyer, and Miriam Stein is the saucy provincial lass who bewitches him. Moritz Bleibtreu completes the triangle as Goethe's boss and the girl's fiancé. Good-looking, fun, ends before Goethe did much of importance. - Three stars
