Two Tacoma homegrown boys and former bartenders created something magical when they opened Doyle's. This pub offers great bar food with some traditional pub offerings, amazing draft and bottle beer selections, and great deals on wines by the glass.

Without going overboard on the whole Shamrock crap that makes so many United Kingdom-style pubs intolerable, Doyle’s Public House operates on the simple “neighborhood bar” principle that dictates a good selection of international and domestic beer and booze at reasonable prices delivered without a wait. You can easily ignore the televised European soccer, and the Guinness fanatics. They host fun parties and Wednesday Knowledge Nights. Band nights are packed. Oh yeah, and they know what we want to drink before we even ask for it.

Doyle’s offers a traditional Irish bar fare menu, not American traditional, but items such as Guinness stew, bangers and mash, corned beef — the grub you would expect at an Irish pub.

The pub also serves a bounty of tasty sandwiches.  Their popular Cheesy British sub includes mayo, mustard, pickle, lettuce and tomato portion, as well as turkey, ham, roast beef and cheddar cheese.  Easily a foot long, toasted, it arrives with either a salad or soup.

The Guinness stew is served in a bread bowl, but let’s not split hairs.  The bowl was toasted, hollowed and filled with a decent stew.  The flavors were rich and meaty, and the serving size average. This won’t satisfy a rugby player, but it’s a good choice after a polo match.

Doyle’s houses an impressive collection of Irish whiskey, plus a collection of beer from the U.K. (and the standards as well).
