Video Games Live is not just a concert. It's an experience. An experience to end all experiences for all nerdkind. An experience that will give every game geek in the land the chance to hear live video game music. An experience that will yank game fanatics from joysticks Friday night in Tacoma.

The show was created and stars video game music composer Tommy Tallarico, who holds a Guinness World Record for the person who has worked on the most commercially-released video games. You might recognize him from such little-known titles as Pong, Mortal Kombat and Sonic the Hedgehog.

The concert integrates local orchestras and choirs with its extensive mix of media and performance - video footage from the games, synchronized lighting and live performers from soloists to live action sequences.

The concert includes footage and music from the crème-de-la-crème of cult-forming video games - from Mario and Zelda, to Warcraft and Halo. All told, there are more than 50 games from the dawning of video game history to the present included in the show - plus a Classic Arcade Medley featuring catchy little eight-bit diddies turned lush instrumental soundtracks such as Duck Hunt, Tetris, Donkey Kong and others.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with plenty of pre-show fun, including a Guitar Hero competition offering the high score winner an opportunity to duel with Tallarico and the orchestra on stage.

Best costumes will win prizes.

After the show, meet and greet the artists involved, including Tallarico, Grammy Award winning composer Christopher Tim and YouTube sensation Laura "Flute Link" Intravia.
Tickets range from $39 to $94. At the $94 level, you receive front-line access during the meet-and-greet plus dessert and a no-host bar in the mezzanine after the show.
Of course, you'll have to ask your mom.
