By day, Brian Kasnyik picks through boxes of bananas, apples and oranges, inspecting each one before he places them on display, pausing occasionally to chat with an elderly woman, slice a piece of peach for a child, or laugh heartily with a regular.

By night, the produce manager dreams of his next big photo shoot, or edits handfuls of pictures he's taken - and like his fruit - inspects each one before he places them on display.

Kasnyik's most recent project is the completion of a photo session for Eddie Spaghetti's solo album, The Value of Nothing, to be released June 18.

A Cleveland native who grew up in Olympia, Kasynik always had an eye for art - stemming from his father's photography, and his own love of rock music.

His infatuation began as a young boy, when neighbors gave him stacks of Kiss, Rush, Ted Nugent and AC/DC albums to listen to.

"For me the visual art was equally as important as the musical art," says Kasnyik, who admits to a teenage life checking out the Hit Parader centerfolds as opposed to Playboy magazines.

"I would put the albums on and just interrogate every bit of the artwork/photography of the covers and sleeves as I listened to them," continues Kasynik.

"I thought that Ted Nugent's Weekend Warriors album cover was the coolest thing, along with all the Kiss albums."

It was while being a roadie on the Pearl Jam/Supersuckers tour, that tour manager Wilbur Boyd got Kasnyik started with the camera, and the love transformed into a passion.

"It has been an addiction ever since," says Kasnyik.

Eddie Spaghetti, Presidents of the United States of America, Caspar Babypants, Zeke, Danko Jones, Sean Wheeler and Zander Schloss, and Agent Orange are just a few of the rock personalities Kasnyik has had the pleasure of working with.

And Kasnyik doesn't just shoot band photos, his personality shines through portraits and places, too. Think kids with their skateboards or motorbikes, laughing families, roller derby girls, senior portraits, fashion shots, local landmarks and secret spots.

But music is his preferred photography outlet, and the projects just keep coming.

"Lately, I have been working with Danny Bland of Seattle on a couple books he has in the works," says Kasnyik. "He has his first novel coming out, which has some amazing talents doing audio chapters. Check it out at www.incasewedie.com. Very soon you will be seeing the results I did for Chris Ballew and his Caspar Babypants/Beatles cover album. Also, I have been getting photos together for the Gibson Guitar Showroom for display."

And by the way, next time you find yourself melon shopping, Kasnyik says, "When picking out watermelon, percussion skills come in handy. Use your knuckle and listen for a tight hollow sound. You don't want to have the flat thud kick drum sound - drum solo in the produce department."
