Being a mother is rough. From wiping bottoms and runny noses to shelling out the credit card for another school expense, the demands of a mom never stop. We at the Weekly Volcano understand. That's why I suggest a night of comedic relief and live music.

Saturday, May 11 the Temple Theater in Tacoma presents Women in Comedy, with special musical guest Mycle Wastman. Seasoned comedians who've run the gammet of television appearances from Showtime to Bill Marr and Comedy Central to Roseanne, the trio consists of Carrie Snow, Carole Montgomery and Laura Hayden.

"It's a very powerful line-up," says Jorge Hernandez, Women in Comedy executive producer. "It's very seldom to see three of this caliber in one show - and being all women. It brings intrigue."

Diligently doing my homework and Googling performances by these three women put my article turnaround time in reverse as I sipped my coffee a little more slowly and enjoyed Youtube video after Youtube video of hilarity about what it means to be a woman, put in the sharp and witty perception of these talented ladies. I can only imagine how fun it would be to see them live, with all the proper improv and audience participation that makes live shows unique.

Another quality that Hernandez says makes this presentation unique is the venue - the historic Temple Theater - with its beautiful detailing and top-of-the-line sound system.

Following his favored style of Saturday Night Live, Hernandez made sure to bring in a quality musical guest as well; this time northwest gem, Mycle Wastman, who's appearance on The Voice made his Seattle following rise to a national level.

"He was definitely the judges favorite that night," says Hernandez of Wastman's rendition of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together," that had judges on their feet.

(Author's note: I may or may not have been PMSing, but watching Wastman croon that epic song did make my eyes leak a little. Plus he's kinda cute.)

Hernandez understands his demographic, he wants mothers to come out with their daughters, husbands to come out with their wives, and women to enjoy themselves on their special day.

"Its a way to celebrate women," he says.

There are two shows Saturday night - 5 and 9 p.m. Paired with a little dinner and cocktails, Women in Comedy makes an irresistible evening for all.

WOMEN IN COMEDY, 5 and 9 p.m., Saturday, May 11, Temple Theater, 47 St. Helens Ave., Tacoma, $29 and $39, 253.272.2042
