South Puget Sound resident, Ms. Wheelchair America 2014 titleholder, motivational speaker, disability advocate, author and businesswoman Jennifer Adams is positively unstoppable.

Born only with partial limbs, Adams has been an inspiration, a beacon of hope and an energetic advocate and educator in the disabled community and beyond. Her accomplishments are awe-inspiring.

Adams holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Pacific Lutheran University and is certified in radio broadcasting.  She earned her Master's degree in counseling from Faith Seminary. While completing her education, she worked in several corporate settings; after completing her Master's degree, she worked at Tacoma's School of the Arts (SOTA) as an advocate for students with disabilities.

In her spare time, Adams pursues her passion for the arts - singing, dancing and acting are favorite artistic pursuits. She is champion for everyone partaking in their own artistic expressions, regardless of their disabilities.

Adams' life experiences, coupled with her business, professional and educational background, have given her a unique and life-changing opportunity. She started a motivational speaking business called "SHIFT." Adams' goal: to tell her story in order to "shift" people's mindsets to see the "possibilities beyond their limitations."

As a result of creating SHIFT, Adams has launched an anti-bullying campaign called "The Power of Words." No stranger to being bullied in school, she has a mission to share her experiences of the power of words on an individual's life and to be an advocate for acceptance and change.

Then, of course, there's her 2014 reign as Ms. Wheelchair America, a role that she is proud of and cherishes. She has traveled near and far to encourage, inspire and support others.

"My reign as Ms. Wheelchair America 2014 has been a wonderful adventure!" she said. "I have traveled all over the United States promoting my platform, ‘Inclusion Revolution.' The message of my platform is, ‘as we take our gifts and talents out into the world, disabilities dissolve and abilities shine forth.'  I hold the title of Ms. Wheelchair America 2014 until August 2014. I still have so many adventures ahead of me this year, and I appreciate the support of my community to help me finish my reign strong!"

Indeed. And with the help of a local educational institution and the community, Adams will be able to take her message and advocacy even further.

The Salon Professional Academy is playing host to a special benefit, hair, makeup and fashion show and silent auction to support Adams. The event, "Shine Bright Like a Diamond Hair Show and Auction" will be held 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 25 at the Academy, which is located at 3702 S. Fife St. in Tacoma.
