[EXPERIMENTAL FOLK] + FRIDAY, MAY 31

Kaetlin Kennedy's Lost Lockets project is a mixture of multimedia performance art and darkly alluring experimental folk music. You're never quite sure what you'll experience when you see Lost Lockets. Interpretive dance numbers, sound collages, off-putting costumes and themes, Kennedy solo or surrounded by a cast of characters. What can be determined is that this is a project that's constantly in flux, always striving for new ways of arriving at artistic expression. But all of that would so much pretty window dressing if it weren't for Kennedy's beautiful voice and knack for not only constructing equally haunting original pieces, but also for selecting and interpreting the work of others. A fine example is her drifting cover of "Born in the USA," which puts boldly out in front all of the song's emotions that Ronald Reagan so obtusely missed when he chose it for his campaign song. {REV. LOST LOCKETS, w/ Mira Billotte and Takhoma, 8 p.m., Northern, 414 ½ Legion Way, Olympia, $7

[ROCK] + FRI, MAY 31

Local band Ranchero above all ... is ROCK, but Bobble Tiki detects a bit of the grunge, especially in the guitars. The band is an aural melding pot of '90s grunge, '80s guitar rock and the most exciting elements throughout the rock genre. The thunderous rhythm section, made up of Andy Coffey on drums and DaRatt Lucas on bass, provides the driving foundations to propel the dual guitar assault from Barry Meier and Tim "Vegas" Silvers. Their "pull-no-punches" attitude with their approachability and personality will make the Music and Art in Wright Park benefit show Friday effing rockin'. If Bobble Tiki had legs, he'd wear ripped jeans to this show. {BOBBLE TIKI}

RANCHERO, with C.F.A. and The Dignitaries, includes raffle and silent auction, 9 p.m., The New Frontier Lounge, 301 E. 25th St., Tacoma, $5, 253.572.4020

[PUNK] + SAT, JUNE 1

This is once again another opportunity for me to throw this lesson out there: if you're interested in getting write-ups for your band, give them the most kick-ass name you can think of. Thankfully, besides having one of the coolest names this side of DJ Ted Dancin' (totally real), Gaytheist absolutely bring it with their brand of whip-smart, unexpectedly melodic, blistering punk. They're also on the short songs tip - mostly in and out in two minutes or less. While most of their songs have an aggression and drive to them, there is still an unmistakable joy inherent in their music, whether it manifests itself in delightfully silly titles like "60 Easy Payments" or "MANhattan," slyly winking wordplay. Best of all, Gaytheist calls the bluff of novelty gay metal acts like Pink Steel. {REV. AM}

GAYTHEIST, w/ Argonaut, 9 p.m., The New Frontier Lounge, 301 E. 25th St., Tacoma, cover TBA, 253.572.4020

[ROCK] + SUN, JUNE 2

This Sunday, June 2, make your way over to Jake's on 4th for a community fundraiser for Siobhan, aka Rusty Nails, who has been in recovery since a March 27 hit and run accident in downtown Oly. She sustained many broken bones and has been undergoing many life-altering surgeries, including having part of her leg amputated. Dirty Malkovich, Jeremy Serwer, Hellbelly, Glass Elevator, The Hard Way and Full Moon Radio will all be performing to help cover the cost of extensive medical bills and ongoing care. What an incredible lineup and community spirit to serve this woman, who has been described by friends as a "bad ass, beautiful creature loved by so many of us all over the place." All donations will go directly to Siobhan's recovery costs. {Nikki McCoy}

NAIL THIS, 6:30 p.m., Jake's On 4th, 311 Fourth Ave., Olympia, $5, 360.956.3247
