[FOLK ROCK] + FRI, APRIL 18

I'm just going to come out and say it. I have a crush on Science! I really do. There is something super endearing about two dudes playing guitars in such depths that it can elicit emotion - sincerity, reflection, angst, and especially happiness. These singer/songwriters are totally cute, they are soooo Olympia, (despite the success of their "Seattle Song") and they can really fucking jam. The folk-rock duo of Justin Stang and Jim Elenteny is infectious and will easily rock their first night at the newly-opened Rhythm and Rye. Expect smiles, fun, dance moves, riffs that send chills, sparkly eyes, good cold beer, high fives, shots and new music from one of the best bands in Olympia. {NIKKI MCCOY}

SCIENCE!, 9 p.m., Rhythm and Rye, 311 Capitol Way, Olympia, $3

[EXPERIMENTAL WORLD POP] + SAT, APRIL 19

Kildjate Moussa Albadé is a singer-songwriter from Tuareg, Niger. He's currently touring through the U.S. under his TisDass moniker. What distinguishes Albadé is his soulful and pristine guitar work. Finger-picking out a melody that slowly insinuates itself into your head, he's content to let that progression ride out and form a groove. He doesn't sing in English, but everything that he needs to convey is communicated through his nimble guitar and endearing voice. When he performs in Olympia, he'll be backed by the experimental pop outfit Brainstorm, as well as iconoclastic K Records alumnus Angelo Spencer. It all sounds like an eclectic night of merging cultures, which is something that doesn't happen frequently enough in the indie scene. I'm thrilled to hear the new sounds made by TisDass and company. {REV. ADAM MCKINNEY}

TISDASS, w/ Brainstorm, Angelo Spencer, Flesh Collage, 8 p.m., Northern, 414 ½ Legion Way, Olympia, $6

[HIP-HOP] + SAT, APRIL 19

I spend most of my 25360 time in the region's more metro scenes. Saturday, I'm hitting the pre-420 party at Sabra's Place in ... Chehalis. And the weather looks to be cloudy with a chance of green with Easter the next morning. Nice combo, huh? The club will host Mr. Twist, Dr. Roks and Yak Nasty That Nilla. This should be an interesting show with Mr. Twist, one of the Olympia's most notable host/MCs coupled with his partner in rhyme and zany, devil-horn-braided-haired MC, Yak Nasty who is known for an animated and raucous stage show. Dr. Roks will be manning the turntables and doing his best to maintain a sure "fire" party atmosphere. There is plenty of history and nature in Chehalis and there will be a wild show at Sabra's to set the tone for this 420 weekend. {JOSE GUTIERREZ JR.}

PRE-420 PARTY, w/Mr. Twist, Yak Nasty and Dr. Roks, 10 p.m., Sabra's Place, 337 NW Chehalis Ave., Chehalis, no cover, 360.345.1371

[PSYCH-ROCK] + SUN, APRIL 20

Starting at 4:20 p.m. (for some unexplained reason), there will be many delirious festivities to be had at The New Frontier Lounge. Returning local heroes and tireless road warriors the Night Beats will be performing, along with a cavalcade of psychedelic friends, including People Under the Sun, MILK, the Pharmacy, and out-of-towners Cosmonauts and the Black Seas. At press time, it's unclear what's so special about starting a show at 4:20 on April 20, but one thing is absolutely clear: This will be a long, sloppy day of psych-rock so blistering it'll blast the haze from your head. Every once in a while, it's a good idea to take a squeegee to your brain before coating it with some more smoke, liquor and other unsavory pastimes. {REV. AM}

4/20 SHOW, w/ Night Beats, People Under the Sun, MILK, the Pharmacy, Cosmonauts, the Black Seas, 4:20 p.m., The New Frontier Lounge, 301 E. 25th St, Tacoma, no cover, 253.572.4020
