The duo of Francisco y Madero is comprised of two dudes who met through MySpace and collaborated from hundreds of miles apart - Jesse Sylvester in San Francisco and Carlos Pesina in Guadalajara, Mexico. Despite the piecemeal approach they had to forming their band, their music resonates with a form and cohesion that belies the way Francisco y Madero came to be. In a matter similar to TV Girl, who recently toured through these parts, they combine vintage samples and beats with live vocals. Francisco y Madero, though, introduce a hazy lounge-act vibe into the proceedings, coming up with a sound that they've dubbed "sampledelia." On their tour, they've brought with them fellow Guadalajara-based psych rockers Dorotheo. This show is sure to be a mind-altering affair, so you best come prepared. {REV. ADAM MCKINNEY}

[HARD ROCK] + SAT, AUG. 9

That Coyote describe themselves as hard rock, and while that's intermittently true, they devote a substantial amount of their time to exploring different moods and textures. Two songs off of their most recent LP add up to almost half an hour, which would fall in line with the format of metal journeys, but they touch upon as many different aspects as possible, without falling into the role of playing around for its own sake. At any place or time, That Coyote may land upon a catchy enough hook that it could make up its own alt-rock song, while later on in the song, they'll find themselves delving into ambient and hardcore music. In all, it comes across as a majestic way to explore music of a theme, while still coming across as interested explorers of sound. {REV. AM}

It is always a treat to be part of a movement - to catch an artist during their incline rather than having to vomit your way through a decline (see: Ja Rule, that was a hard one to sit through). Saturday, you may see a young, up-and-coming rapper before he blows up. Atlanta-based Russ Vitale (relation to Dick, unknown) is talented as his Youtube videos show. Thurston County high school student begged Vitale to rock with them. He agreed. XP aka Xperience joins Vitale on stage. The Gary, Indiana, native, who built his reputation and name in Olympia, recently came off of tours with Macklemore and the legendary Masta Ace. Expect XP's usual uncanny combination of singing and rapping, along with a stirring rendition of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun." {JOSE GUTIERREZ}

Bruising lyrics about weird moons and whiskey friends and love and hate in places like Montesano and Oklahoma, the female vocals are a little Mazzy Star meets old country, with that wavering sexiness that sounds like power. Instrumentally, a little shake, shake, shake, some twang, lots of good melodies and some straight rock riffs as well, 10 Cents in Oklahoma is pretty damn groovy. On my must-check-out list for some time now, as I've seen their name floating around town, I'm glad I did. If you've heard them, you already know. If you haven't, may I suggest joining their growing fan base? Vocalist Natalie Johnson says, "If someone hasn't seen us live, they should come to a show. Half the fun of performing is hamming it up.
