Every Tuesday at 4 p.m., the Harmon Tap Room becomes the rendezvous location and take-off point for the Harmon Bike Club. The Tacoma-based cycling and social group meets for weekly rides around the Puget Sound. This bunch of spinners raises money for Mary Bridge Children's Hospital's Child Abuse Intervention Department. Formed in 2007, these "Do-gooders on Wheels" get together for weekly, or more frequent, training rides in prep for the big one - the Courage Classic Bicycle Tour. The on-site brewery makes deciding what to drink a no-brainer. Scarf down small plate tapas-style appetizers, hand-tossed pizzas, Northwest-inspired entrees, burgers, sandwiches and salads. Mozzarella-stuffed deep-fried risotto balls are banging. There is lots of outdoor seating during warm months.
Nestled between private residences on a tree-lined stretch of Tacoma's North Historic Slope is the Parkway Tavern - the birthplace of the Tacoma Runners. Formed in January 2010, this running group rotates take-off locations for weekly runs Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. The Swiss hosted the TR's first 100-person run in 2010. Bask in the draft beer variety while at both the Parkway and The Swiss. Simple American pub food of burgers, sandwiches, salads and soups are served at both.
You may find both the Tacoma Runners and the Harmon Bike Club on Facebook.
