BLOODDRUNK SHENANIGANS

>>> Friday, Oct. 15

The band's name implies intoxication via the metallic red stuff, but the sound is that of pure, trashy beer and whiskey. Blooddrunk Shenanigans are part of a long-standing tradition of drunken UK blokes and the fiery punk they create. (Even though they appear to be from Texas. Weird.) Lead singer Timmy Kin has a Shane MacGowan-esque brogue that manages to convey equal parts anger and wry, smirking sarcasm. One gets the impression the band's real intoxication - apart from booze and cigarettes - is chaos. Song after song, Blooddrunk Shenanigans make it clear that the aftermath of the drink ("Let's Fight," "Get Up and Yell," "Let's Rock") is more rewarding than the drink itself. Grab a whiskey, catch ‘em live and slam head-on into your fellow man. - Rev. Adam McKinney

GUYS IN THE GARAGE

>>> Friday, Oct. 15

Here's something odd: a garage/psychedelic dance party. Presiding over "Guys in the Garage Night" at The New Frontier will be the mysterious DJ Chelsea Fantasia. At the time of this writing, not much is known of the DJ. What I do know is Tarek Wegner (Night Beats) and Spencer Kelly (Basemint) will also be spinning. These are two dudes with a deep love for and obsession with music, specifically that of the '60s. It would be reasonable to expect an exhibition of some of those long-lost nuggets that find themselves buried in closets and discount bins for years at a time, only to be unearthed and displayed for an unprepared public. As for dancing: after Strength's recent dance party, my still-sore muscles can attest that Tacoma people are willing to get out on the floor. - Rev. AM

HUNTING GROUNDS

>>> Saturday, Oct. 16

Seattle four-piece Hunting Grounds is in a state of flux. The band's already multifaceted sound is about to take an evolutionary leap with the departure of singer Mike Ensor, whose vocal contributions added an unmistakable New Wave vibe to Huting Grounds' genre-bending indie rock songs. Now remaining members Todd Bernier (guitar, vocals), Jeremy Clemens (guitar, vocals), John Warner (drums, vocals) and new addition Jeff Smith (bass, vocals) aim to renew their focus on songwriting and recording. You'd think having four songwriters (let alone four vocalists) in one band would lead to tension - but if dialectics have taught us anything, it's that conflict begets change, and change is very much on the horizon for this gang of 30-somethings: their show at Bob's Java Jive will be their last under the name Hunting Grounds. Truly, there's no shortage of local bands drawing on the halcyon sounds of '90s alternative, but Hunting Grounds have a vibe all their own. - Jason Baxter

[Bob's Java Jive, with Oh Dear!, Dilithium Pistol, 8 p.m., Price TBA, 2102 S. Tacoma Way, Tacoma, 253.475.9843]

FALL FASHION LORE RUNWAY SHOW

>>> Saturday, Oct. 16

Fashion, art and music just fucking go together. In Tacoma, the fantastic collision happens at urbanXchange ... or at least it usually happens at urbanXchange. Saturday, the Fall Fashion Lore Runway Show (presented by urbanXchange) will go down at King's Books in Tacoma. Promising that they've been, "stockpiling extraordinary goods for a month now," and that these stylish-goods will "explode on Tacoma this Saturday night in a delicious display of style inspiration," the Fall Fashion Lore Runway Show at King's (presented by urbanXchange) will no doubt be one of the truly boffo events of the weekend. Even better, local-favorites Basemint will plug in along with Nicolas Hartzell. - Matt Driscoll

[King's Books, doors at 7:30 p.m., $8, 218 St. Helens Ave., Tacoma, 253.272.8801]
