TIN MAN

>>> Friday, June 10

Honestly, Bobble Tiki feels like he's been getting promotional messages about and Facebook invites for Tin Man's CD release show for Somewhere in the Middle since 1987. That can't be, of course. Tin Man founder Rusty Parrish created Tin Man after years spent in punk bands, not to mention years then spent away from music focusing on family, but the CD being celebrated this week is only the latest in his body of work - not a one-time thing, and nothing to yawn about. After constructing a safely alt-country band to suit the Tin Man solo project he first birthed in 2005, Parrish is obviously stoked for Somewhere in the Middle to see the light of day. Bobble Tiki can't blame him. So what if that means he gets an email every day about it. - Bobble Tiki

RISHLOO

>>> Saturday, June 11

Can I be honest with you? Good. My brother loves Rishloo. He is a fan of metal in a way I cannot quite wrap my brain around. Whenever he tries to talk to me about metal, he always brings up Rishloo - a band he is convinced I will like because of the way it incorporates progressive rock and psychedelia influences. At one point, he dragged me down to see a show, and you know what? It was fucking fun. The lead singer has a perfect falsetto metal wail, which works expertly with the faux-introspective flow of the music. I don't want to convince you Rishloo is more than it is, but the band is a hell of a lot of fun. And they really deliver on their ridiculous promise. - Rev. Adam McKinney

2011 BASS ODYSSEY

>>> Saturday, June 11

You like bass, sure, but are you ready to go on a motherfucking bass ODYSSEY? An odyssey is nothing to be taken lightly, my friend. ... But of course you're ready. Of course you're ready for an evening of bass mastery on display, the likes of which have rarely been seen (probably not since Bass Odyssey 2010). Billed as "an entire night devoted to the talent, technique and style of bassists Brian Bromberg, Norm Stockton, Bryan Beller, Jeff Morgan and E. Pruit," Bass Odyssey 2011 at Jazzbones Saturday may be flying under the radar for some this weekend - but will surely be talked about come Monday morning. - Matt Driscoll

DEEP SEA DIVER

>>> Sunday, June 12

Sometimes a band will come along with a series of songs that sound naggingly as though you've heard them many times before ... hazily, quietly from a nearby speaker, or lurking in the background of a movie scene. Even though you've never heard the song before, somehow it seems to be ingrained in your immediate musical vocabulary. You've always heard it, but you've never heard it. Deep Sea Diver has stumbled across this sensation. Theirs is a kind of beatific indie rock that makes a great deal of hay out of chiming guitars and the relaxed yet forceful lead vocals of Jessica Dobson. Beginning as a solo singer-songwriter in California, Dobson made the transition to a full band around 2006, adopting the title of one of her recently penned songs as the band's name. - Rev. AM

BRUTE HEART

>>> Tuesday, June 14

There's a delicate balance that is struck with Brute Heart: feathery violin and vocals are buoyed by a strumming bass line and skipping drums. The combination at times reaches a hypnotic hum, and at other times approaches a rousing folk backbeat. What most often reaches the forefront is this intriguing amalgam of Eastern mysticism and Western energy. These ingredients make the perfect kind of sound to commit oneself to on a contemplative evening, all sounds mixing and bleeding into one another through the focused waves of the earphones, lulling one into a daze that has the ability to eat away an hour of life. Brute Heart has the ability to create missing hours, which is something one seldom finds, short of alien abductions. - Rev. AM
