Three master cheesemakers will bring product and hang from 3-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 in the cheese department at Metropolitan Market (2420 N. Proctor St., Tacoma).

OCTOBERFEST

The Weekly Volcano would travel to the ends of the earth for a savory helping of local craft brews and soft pretzels, but thankfully we just need to go as far as Tacoma's Opera Alley. Octoberfest Tacoma will feature local craft beer, pretzels, pie eating contest, chainsaw pumpkin carving and more from 2-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at Seventh and Opera Alley in downtown Tacoma. There'll be more stuff but we drank too much bier, we mean beer, before we wrote this.

BEER TASTING

99 Bottles (35002 Pacific Hwy. S., Federal Way) will pour Alaskan Brewing Co. beers - including the limited-release Perseverance Stout, brewed with birch syrup and fireweed honey - from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1.

INFORMAL FALL DINNER PARTY FOR FRIENDS

The Bayview School of Cooking (516 W. Fourth Ave., Olympia) teaches a free class on how to make a quick and stress-free party for your friends from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.

OLD-FASHIONED CLAM BOIL
