A few months back when I had a squaresville job at a bookstore, I ran into none other than mixmaster Lok Skywalker, the triple OG from the Eastside. He's an MC, producer, audio engineer, graphic designer, family man and a straight-up "G." Lok was just wearing a regular fit. He was with his kids and they were shopping for schoolbooks. When they came up to my register in line, Lok's young son looked up at me and said, "Guess what? Did ya know my dad is a rapper? His name is Lok Skywalker!"

At that moment I felt somewhat cool because I actually did know his dad was a rapper. I told the little man that I was a rapper, too. We all smiled at the cool cuteness of the whole thing. I dapped up Lok, sold them their books and they were on their way. As they left, I got a warm sense of community.

I realized a lot of my fellow artists are almost have a bit of a superhero persona; although it's a little more in the vein of Mystery Men than the Dark Night or the Avengers. See, many of my fellow artists have two lives, kind of like a Clark Kent/Superman thing going on. In the day, many of us have square jobs and/or we take care of our children. Then at night though, we turn into this alter ego of our artistic selves. We're not putting on a costume and being something we're not. It's more like the moon comes out and we grow hair and fangs and become our true werewolf selves. We might have a couple thousand fans who know that we shift into our artistically warped twin at night, but most people we encounter in our daily lives have no idea what we turn into when the sun goes down.

                  The alter egos and artistic characters that we develop and turn into are oftentimes amusing and hilarious. Think about funny artists who have loads of personality like Jay Barz, Motamouth Jones, Chris Crayzie, The Gonzo Family and there's a lot more. These artists know how to have humor and fun along with maintaining their artistic credibility. One of these artists is Kind Scrub.

                  Scrub was born in Vallejo, Calif., and now resides in Tacoma with his family. He was born to a country western mom and a rock n' roll dad. These influences, The Bay (Area), and country and rock music form the foundation of Scrub. He's definitely part Vallejo hustle rap, part Tacoma streets and part Kid Rock. King Scrub is a master marketer and promoter as well. He often packs them in at California Club, and he just threw a free show on a Wednesday night at Jazz Bones. We know local hip-hop is hard to come by at Jazz Bones, so kudos to the King for hooking that one up. Scrub recently brought up Rappin' 4-Tay for a show at The California Night Club also. At a King Scrub show, ya can grab King Scrub merchandise. He's got T-shirts and those cool plastic bracelet thingies.
