Ah, Secret Santa, the office game of who can buy a decent gift for around $20 for someone they hardly know. You may know that Debbie down the hall, fourth cubicle over, never wipes out the microwave when she's done using it. But what to get her for Christmas?

That's where we come in.

Easy and smart: A Buy Local Coupon Book. This book can be used on every lunch break for the rest of the year. With more than $5,000 in savings from local businesses like Orca Books, Olympia Food Co-op, Archibald's Sisters and many more, this baby is worth picking up for yourself, too. And of course, it's good for the environment and local economy, supports small business and instills a sense of community - all the stuff that gets you on Santa's good list. Find Buy Local Coupon Books at local retailers or www.sustainablesouthsound.org.

Pop culture: How about mini-collectable vinyl Walking Dead figurines? Or a Storage Wars board game or Duck Dynasty calendar? Look no further than the Westfield Mall game kiosk. It has all your quirky gift needs that say, "Don't take this gift too seriously. I'm not trying to hang out after work or anything, but I did notice you like that one T.V. show." Bonus: Anything Seahawks-y will be well-received this year, so don't be shy about giving those Seahawks Christmas ornaments, cup cozies or stuffed animals. Check Hill's Hallmark, also in the mall. Don't forget to check downtown Olympia's Archibald Sisters for truly unique gifts like unicorn masks, pug magnets and other gag gifts.

Food and drink: Remember the simple office pleasures - like coffee and snacks. World Market in Olympia has a huge assortment of gourmet, imported and obscure snacky and drinky things, like Slap Ya Mama hot sauce, one of 23 flavors. There are hundreds of candies and sweets like Venco Licorice Coins. You can even sneak in some wine. Added bonus: World Market will take your chosen items, put them in a cute basket and wrap them with a nice little bow. A nice bag of local coffee, from brewers like Olympia Coffee Roasting or Bluebeard and Valhalla out of Tacoma, will always do the trick.

For the office: Compass Rose (in Olympia and Tacoma) has a surprising selection for cubical-dwellers. There are cute coffee mugs with patterns like Scrabble, anchors, raindrops and bikes. It offers funky office supplies, like cool rulers, retro clocks, fun pen and paper products and Washi tape, which is rice paper tape that comes in sweet patterns like polka dots, stripes and lace. And you can always count on Compass Rose to provide all your wrapping needs.

And if your office party happens to be in a newsroom, ahem, then I'm sure the gifts of choice will include anything alcoholic and/or caffeinated (you up for making four-loko again, Rev. Adam McKinney?), wrist braces for the pending carpal tunnel, and Brotherhood Lounge calendars (now available free at the bar), so workers can keep an eye on deadlines and when happy hour is.

Cheers!
