Nothing says the holiday season has officially arrived like spying cartons of eggnog in the dairy aisle at the grocery store. I've literally seen grown men's eyes alight while a small squeal of excitement escaped their lips knowing that eggnog season was upon us. It seems natural that eggnog is the beverage of choice for the season. This creamy, spiced concoction is a tall glass of holiday cheer and comfort. I went on an eggnog adventure to see what some creative lovers of the nog were doing with it as an ingredient. Three cheers to eggnog in all of its glory.

EGGNOG CUPCAKES

Baked goods, specifically cupcakes. Wanna Cupcake in Puyallup has a plethora of cupcake flavor combos, one of which is eggnog. As you step into the doors, you're welcomed by aromas of delightful baked goodies and mountains of cupcakes presented in lovely layers of goodness. Tuesdays in December, eggnog is included among the flavors. The cake is lightly sweetened and moist, while the creamy frosting really packs the eggnog punch ($3). I inquired if eggnog was used to whip up this lovely little topping and was informed that they use an eggnog extract. Nom! A perfect mini cake for those who admire the flavor.

WANNA CUPCAKE, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, 2102 E. Main St., Puyallup, 253.256.5566

EGGNOG COCKTAIL

Being a holiday beverage means that eggnog wouldn't be true to its nature if booze wasn't involved. Imbibing the nectar of the gods makes being jolly and dealing with holiday shopping and the in-laws easy as pie. Maxwell's Speakeasy doctors up a house-made eggnog with spiced Wild Turkey and Grand Marnier ($6). The end result is delicious, if not a little adventurous, as traditionally rum is used to amp up the eggnog. This eggnog cocktail is a classy number served up with a dash of nutmeg. Warm and fuzzies follow ... or maybe just a good buzz.

MAXWELL'S SPEAKEASY, 4-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 4 p.m. to midnight Friday, 5 p.m. to midnight Saturday, 454 Saint Helens Ave., Tacoma, 253.683.4115

EGGNOG FRENCH TOAST

Old Milwaukee Café in Tacoma is known for its phenomenal desserts and breakfast staples, and I was delighted to hear it had eggnog French toast on the menu ($6). These yummy little triangles of goodness come delivered sprinkled with powdered sugar and a side of warmed syrup. As I nibbled, I was taken back to the days of Saturday morning cartoons and placing cookies upon the hearth to bribe Old Saint Nick to forgive me for all of my wrongdoings for the year.

OLD MILWAUKEE CAFÉ & DESSERTS, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 3102 Sixth Ave., Tacoma, 253.761.2602
