Tony Worrell wanted to surprise his girlfriend with a romantic one-night getaway.

As soon as he pulled into the driveway at Treehouse Point, he knew he'd succeeded in his quest.

"She was completely shocked," said Worrell, a Lakewood resident. "I had heard about (Treehouse Point) a couple of years ago on television, but when I first saw it I was amazed."

Like something out of a fairly tale, the lodge located in Issaquah (about 60 miles northeast of Joint Base Lewis-McChord) features several cabins nestled in the treetops about 80 feet above the ground. The facility is part nature conservatory, cultural events and environmental learning center that aims to facilitate stewardship of natural resources.

But for travelers and locals lucky enough to spend the night in one of the rooms, it's a fantasy getaway.

"Trees have a certain energy you can't deny," Treehouse Point owner Pete Nelson told NBC's Today Show for a segment it filmed there in December.

Rope bridges connect the tree house suites, and each feature cozy amenities (except for televisions) for guests to enjoy. All accommodations are artfully decorated with touches such as handmade beds, original art and charming vintage furnishings. From the simple Temple of the Blue Moon suite Worrell and his girlfriend stayed in to the bigger suite with floor to ceiling windows, Treehouse Point is something to see.

"It's very unique," Worrell said. "There's something really, really neat about it. It's really romantic."

What also makes the place special how secluded guests are from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

"You're out in the middle of the woods," Worrell said. "Our room had a view overlooking a creek, and you can hear the river rushing underneath you."

In addition to the pure experience of simply spending the night in a tree house, there are also several activities guests can partake in a short drive away. There are many hiking trails around the lodge and it's only minutes from Snoqualmie Falls.
