We are all used to the fact that MTV no longer delights us with original, catchy music videos. Gone are the days of flipping on the tube and being entertained with both visual and auditory sensation that actually have class and creativity.

But, musicians are evolving creatures and lucky for us, musicians now have the means to make their own videos and post for all to see via the godsend, Youtube.

Tacoma band Strangely Alright is jumping on the bandwagon (pun not intended, but lovely nonetheless) and is calling for Puget Sounders to join in their creative vision of making a music video.

The band, who recently signed to Maurice the Fish Records and released a hot-seller debut album, The Time Machine is Broken, will be shooting a video for their song, "If I Don't Laugh I'm Only Going To Cry" at Tacoma's antique store, Rampart Sept 14. The band requests folks to come in costume and have a good time. There aren't any criteria for costume; coming as you are is cool by the band.

"Say you like the '60s and you wear a polka dot mini, or if you like the 1800s and want to go steampunk - or if you like Willie Mays, ... " says Regan Lane, lead vocalist and guitarist for the band. "Whatever is fun and creative; we'll let that guide us."

The song, and the rest of the album, have a power pop and classic rock feel. The Beatles and David Bowie are dually influential and can be heard in glimpses throughout Strangely Alright's music.

That said, "If I Don't Laugh I'm Only Going To Cry" perhaps transcends any era and Lane feels it is the perfect accompaniment to Rampart's timeless feel.

"Antique stores have a surreal timeless feel to them," he says. "They feel new and old at the same time. In this video maybe the verses will be black and white and the chorus in color, like Wizard Of Oz-y. And I want everything we do to have some Tacoma in it. T-town is a unique and strange place, especially if you know where to look."

If you need a Strangely Alright fix before the shoot, the band hosts an all-ages CD release party with Sleepy Pilot and Stone Age Thrillers Friday at Louie G's in Fife.
