Ah, spring! It's when our thoughts turn to things like baseball, gardening, cookouts and long sunny days. If your thoughts also turn to things like fairies, dragons, magic and make believe, you're going to want to mark your calendar for May 30.

Beginning at 10 a.m. and running until 7 p.m., Crescent Moon Gifts, located at 2502 6th Ave. in Tacoma, will host its 8th annual Spring Fairy Festival, a "celebration of art, music, performance and community."

The festival, which was originally held at Freighthouse Square and more recently at Green River Community College in Auburn, will return this year to its Tacoma roots. For the first time, this popular festival will be held in Crescent Moon Gifts' own parking lot and shop, and it will be free to the public.

The Spring Fairy Festival is the creation of Angela Wehnert, owner of Crescent Moon Gifts.

"Angela does this for the pure love of doing this," Pagan Spangler, an employee of the shop, said. "She loves it as much as the visitors."

Some of the performers who will be featured at this year's festival include cellist Betsy Tinney, vocalist Johanna Warren, Adria the Juggler and many others.  Featured fairy artists include Alexandra Haley from Seattle, Rob Carlos from Tacoma and Herb Leonhard from Prosser. More than three dozen vendors will be on hand to offer a wide variety of handcrafted artisan goodies. Even Disney will have a booth this year to promote its upcoming film, Strange Magic, with a fun activity.

The Spring Fairy Festival has grown to be a very popular celebration with more than 500 visitors attending last year.  It takes a lot of hands to put on such a large event, and there are several positions open for those age 15 and older who might like to volunteer to help. Anyone interested in volunteering can learn more at the Spring Fairy Festival's website.

The public is welcome to this fun, family friendly event. Visitors are encouraged to  wear their best fairy garb or just come as they are. Either way, they are in for a lovely day filled with all things fae.
