Imagine a 2,500-square-foot space filled with nearly 40 tables. Now imagine those tables teeming with rare records, lost VHS classics, band merchandise and memorabilia. Imagine you could swap, sell or purchase any of these precious items while listening to kickass bands and mingling with other connoisseurs.

Well, quit thinking about it and go do it! The 2nd Annual Olympia Record Show happens this Saturday at the Elks Lodge in Olympia. (You know, next to Ralph's Thriftway.) From 6-10 p.m., record labels, vinyl heads, memorabilia junkies and music newbies will gather in one place to find gems and liquidate collections.

The Olympia Music Show is something of newbie itself, finding its groove between Portland and Seattle, where the music scenes are larger and record stores easier to come by. But Olympia holds its own in the way of kitschy music, obscure bands and musical trend-setting and so has naturally manifested a record show of its very own.

"It's a great way to bring it to my backyard," says show curator Mike Dixon.

Last year the event was held at Northern, which is 600 square feet. Only about 150 people were able to circulate through that space, says Dixon. It was obvious what was needed ... more room.

And this year, there is plenty of it.

Located at 1818 Fourth Ave. E., the Elks Lodge allows enough space for the all-ages show to include bands and a 21+ bar. November Witch, Firs of Prey, Sndtrckr, Gardening Not Architecture, Skill Meadow and Lazer Zeppelin are all set to play.

It's a South Sound music lover's dream: You'll get great regional bands, a bar and more awesome junk to sort through than you can shake a drum stick at, all for a $2 admission.

And if your palms are sweaty and you are starting to drool at the thought of rotating out some of your collection, there are still tables available for $25. They will also be available the day of the show.

"Bring money and come early," says Dixon.

And enjoy.
