It's a new week, which means it's time for a new installment of Bobble Tiki's South Sound music news and notes column. Without further ado, let's get rolling. ...

Bobble Tiki has never been called a minimalist. He's been called lazy, unproductive, uninspired, unmotivated and unbecoming to Tikis everywhere, but no one has ever taken a look at Bobble Tiki's body of work and called it "minimalist." Hell, Bobble Tiki can't even hold himself to a "minimal" amount of boxed wine every night.

However, Tacoma's Allan Boothe has been called a minimalist, and the term fits him. Crafting economical, folksy, T-town indie rock for some time now, Boothe has become a small stage staple in this underdog city we call home. He seems comfortable. And we've become comfortable admiring him.

While Boothe has made a name performing solo, recently he's taken on the challenge of leading a full band - Humble Cub, an act scheduled to take the stage Saturday at The New Frontier Lounge with Goldwing and Bayonet. It's easily one of the weekend's most intriguing musical gigs, which is exactly why the Weekly Volcano caught up with Boothe this week over on our blog, Spew.

You can catch all the minimalist Boothe action online, but here's a taste of what you can expect:

"It's a four piece right now - two guitars, bass, and drums. It's similar in that they're still my songs, but there's a lot more motion," says Boothe of Humble Cub. "Same vibe, but bigger, stronger, funner (sic) and electric."

Moving on, the world's premier all female AC/DC tribute band, Hell's Belles, will be in Olympia this week for a performance at the Capitol Theater on Saturday. And while Bobble Tiki has witnessed the Belles' rock ‘n roll prowess on a number of occasions, and always left thoroughly impressed, Bobble Tiki must admit that his 764th chance to catch Hell's Belles isn't exactly as exciting as his first.

Luckily, there's a cherry on the top of this Hell's Belles sundae, and it comes in the form of Queens of Noise - Oly's very own tribute to The Runaways.

Now, Bobble Tiki has no idea what to expect out of Queens of Noise - except that they're a tribute to Joan Jett, Lita Ford and Co.

Really, what more does one need?
